PHNOM PENH, Dec 6 (Cambodia Herald) - Opposition Human Rights Party President Kem Sokha met for 90 minutes Tuesday with Surya Prasad Subedi, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Human Rights, at the UN headquarters in Phnom Penh.

The opposition party leader later told reporters that the closed-door meeting focused on human rights and elections but also covered issues topics such as land disputes and threats against political activists and the media.

Kem Sokha said he complained of "unacceptable injustices" such as threats during elections, bans on public meetings of his party and people being warned not to join such meetings. "Media are too narrow for the opposition to spread its voice or discuss any issues," he said.

"Some opposition politicians have even talked about a Jasmine Revolution. For the Human Rights Party, we want to join in elections but we want the international community to help to make the elections free and fair. We do not want to see any violence. We only want peaceful solution so people will not suffer."

Surya Prasad Subedi was quoted as saying that his visit to Cambodia mainly related to elections and that he would make recommendations to the government for improvements so Cambodia could enjoy international-standard elections.

Responding to the above comments of Dec. 8, 2011 4:04PM.
You seem to critical of Mr. Kem Sokha, you are very presumptuous of his inability to articulate in the English language. Is that all the judgmental you have on an individual person, what about their character, perception, motivation, articulating ideas, vision for the interests of the nation, presentation, etc...,
In contrast to the current officials government, how many of them able to communicate with the world without a translators, probably NONE...

- What kind of person are you?,
- How much English can be spoken from YOU?, Maybe not much by just reading your brief sentence.
- What kind of education did you have?, I can assure you, that not be an impressive one.
- What kind of work you currently doing?

Before you ridicule someone, especially someone that really patriotic like Mr. Kem Sokha. He sacrifice his life, his family, his future for the interests of the country and the people, to save us from the very possible of the Vietnamese colony. We must support any group that oppose the Viet's ideas for my country. We should minimize any cooperation with the Viet.
