Vox Populi: China versus America

Re: China's Wen warns "outside forces" off sea dispute

Lately, Obama decided to put additional 2,500 U.S Marines off northwest of Australia for permanent station. This is clearly an indication that America is redirecting its interests from fighting terrorism to fighting China's expansion, starting from south of the region using the South China Sea as a strategic reason. As usual, America is policing the world to defense its interests. Of course, China saw this as America's meddling in regional affairs. Whatever the case, major military conflict could erupt over this issue. If we look at past history, not too long ago prior to WW2, Japan had quickly risen to its military superiority and economic powers in no time and overtook China and most of Southeast Asian nations. America had decided to intervene to protect its interests through blockading Japan from accessing the seaway to Indonesia, and in return Japan retaliated by bombing Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in 1941, which lead to the full-scale war with Japan, widening World War II from Europe to America and then to Asia. The present situation between China and America is reminiscent of that part of history. It is presenting itself as a perfect recipe for war. God forbid, if there will be one. If there is, it will be a very bloody mess. This time, America is dealing with an enemy unlike that of Japan. Both America and China are capable of annihilating one another. It's hard to say that America will guarantee itself a victory over China. There can only be one tiger in a mountain.

Unfortunately, neither China nor America is tiger. I have a feeling that the US and China can not avoid a war. The two nations have always disagree when it comes to international policies.

China will continue to strengthen its military might until they are certain that they are ready to take on the US then China will act.

That might put and end to the super power status of the U.S. The US will regret for messing with the Chinese.

The US has regretted once for messing with the Vietcong and they will regret again for helping the Vietcong to face off with China.

China is nothing but a big bully country who keeps barking with tough word with no action. Their military technology is 10 to 20 years behind the US. They can not defeat the American.

It is very dangerous for China and America to compete for strategic partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region because it could lead to arms race and armed confrontation in the region. China is very nervous about the U.S renewed close alliance with Australia when President Obama agreed to station American troops in Australia. Not only China, but Indonesia has also warned Australia about its agreement to allow the stationing of U.S troops on its soil because Indonesia sees this as a threat to its own security. China not only sees America's encroachment into its own backyard as a policy of containment of China's military, political and economic sphere of influence, but also as a military threat to China's security. China's influence in the Asia-Pacific region is gaining momentum and this makes America nervous also that it prompted America to re-assess its commitment to the region. The rivalry between China and the U.S could degenerate into a new Cold War as seen happened between the Soviet Union and America from the 1950s to the late 1980s. True, China is behind America in term of economic and military power, possibly 10-20 years behind, but China is catching up and could overtake America in no time. This is a possibility that America did not want to see and that's why it has re-assessed its policy in the Asia-Pacific region by diverting its attention and resources to the region.

If Chinese military is 10-20 years behind, then America has no need to be concerned of China. The fact is, America is paranoid of China catching up. China is now world second largest economy behind America. China could catch up or lead ahead of America within a decade. When this is the case, America's ego and arrogant will come crashing down like WTC. America defeated the Soviet Union in cold war because it had plenty of money to spend. At the end, the Soviet Union gone broke from overspending on military. This eventually lead to political chaos and ultimately the broke away of the Soviet Union. At present, America is falling into the same old trap as the Soviet did. China has plenty of money to spend in developing new weapons such as stealth fighters and bombers, aircraft carriers, and a few others. As for America, many spending cuts. Many military project were either cancel or reduce funding. What is this lead to? Falling behind in new military hardwares which compromise America's military supremecy. China is using the same old successful American trick against America. At the same time, Ameria is competing not with just China but also Russia. It's surprising that America didn't consider Russia as a greater threat than China consider it geographical location. What even scarier is Russia and China are allies. Something to think about...eeh.

8:27 PM, Very true about the collapse of the Soviet Union due to bankruptcy as a result of overspending in arms race. However, the main factor was that socialism and communism was out of date and people had woken up and rebelled against the repressive regimes that practiced communism and socialism. That's we saw the domino collapse one by one of the communist states in Europe.
Arms race between America and China could see America bankrupt because America seem to have exhausted its resources already as it owed over 3 trillion to China and it is going down the path in the way the Soviet Union had collapsed, while China is still very economically sound.
But, the only problem is that China is a communist country and the Chinese people who have endured political repression for over 62 years are waiting for the right moment to rise up. China's economic prosperity has kept these sort of people silent for over 22 years since the Tianamen Square rebellion in 1989. But economic prosperity without political freedom will not satisfy all the 1.3 billion Chinese, as many of them are still poor. If America see itself as the underdog in the arms race and it is tilting toward economic bankruptcy, I see America will stir up the pot and stir up the 1.3 billion Chinese to rise up against its repressive government to destabilize China in order to get the an advantage edge over China economically, militarily and politically.

Vietnam should be grateful that America did not bomb them with the A-BOMB like they did to Japan. So whoever said anything about America losing the Vietnam war is an idiot who see it through the eyes of well thought out speech by reporters. Just look at the casualties on both sides and you will see who really lost.

China has more to lose. They are surrounded by American allies including Russia. Russia need America but try to play a balancing act between the two. Who bailed them out when the Soviet Union Crash?

LOL....America is asserting it's power. China has to respond accordingly.

Actually, Nixon was planning to smoke Hanio out of its hole with nuclear bomb, however; Nixon later changed his mind because this would risk going to war with China and possibly with the Soviet Union. China will not tolerate a nuclear explosion near her border. Hanoi has been very ungrateful toward China and Russia because if it hadn't been them supplying weapons, Hanoi would have had its ass screwd by American forces. Now both Hanoi and Washington D.C are lovers despite Hanoi's Human Rights violation and the repress of its people and the minority, such Kampuchea Krom. Hanoi is giving Uncle Sam a politcal blowjob to convince Washington D.C to have Amerian bases station in Vietnam. If hell broke loose between China and America, we can guarantee that China will not have mercy for Vietnam.

Russia is not an ally of America. Putin despises America and its allies because of the embarassing defeat of the Cold War. Russia's main allies are China and Iran. Among all 6 members of UNSC, Russia and China do not show desire to punish Iran for its covert nuclear weapon development. China and Russia will veto any resolution to take action against Iran. On the other note, China will not allow America to attack Pakistan, just as Russia will not allow America to attack Iran.
