BATTAMBANG town authorities were prohibiting Sam Rainsy Party supporters displaying political signs in certain communes, despite the fact that other political parties were allowed to do so, SRP officials alleged yesterday.
Sor Chandet, SRP deputy president of Battambang province, and Sun Kosal, an SRP member of Battambang town’s council, said yesterday they were prohibited by local authorities from posting signs in Svay Por and Ratanak communes, despite delivering the requisite notifications. “We are waiting for a compromise between the provincial secretariat . . . and local authorities, because local authorities are not obeying the law,” Sun Kosal said. Sor Chandet claimed the CPP, Funcinpec and the Norodom Ranariddh Party had posted signs in the area where they were trying to place signs.
Battambang town governor Oeum Sokhom insisted yesterday that the SRP had attempted to post signs in an off-limits area , but did not respond to the claim of a double standard.
