BEIJING, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Base for China-Cambodia Friendship and Exchange has been established in Changyang Town, Fangshan District of Beijing, in a bid to advance relations between the two countries.

An opening ceremony was held Monday in the town.

The establishment of the center will help promote cooperation and exchanges between the two countries, said Gu Xiulian, former vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's lawmaking body.

China and Cambodia have long enjoyed close relations, successfully cooperating in the fields of politics, economics, culture, education and health care, said Princess Norodom Buppha Devi, president of the Cambodia China Friendship Association.

The establishment of the center is proof of the everlasting friendship held between the two peoples, she added.

This year marks the 53rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cambodia.
