TORONTO - Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC) has received "approval in principle" to set up an operation in Cambodia, which would be the 11th territory in Asia for Canada's largest life insurance company.
Manulife has agreed to support the Cambodian government's efforts to develop the insurance profession in that country, which has a population of 14.4 million.
The company operates in 21 countries and territories worldwide, including Canada, the United States, China and Cambodia's neighbour Viet Nam.
Manulife said it's working to expedite the final stages of licence approval from the Cambodian government and actively establishing its head office, to be in Phnom Penh.
