A Royal Australian Navy sailor has died in Cambodia during a port visit.
The Australian Defence Force said in a statement that it was not known how the woman, who was on shore leave in Sihanoukville from the HMAS Warramunga, had died.
Her family has been informed.
An ADF spokeswoman said it could not yet say when the sailor had died.
A Defence team will arrive in Cambodia later today to investigate the death.
‘‘The ship had just finished a major exercise in the South-East Asian area with Malaysia, Singapore and New Zealand and the UK,’’ Chief of Defence Force General David Hurley told Macquarie Radio.
‘‘She was doing port visits after the exercise. We don’t know any more ... the exact cause of death is unknown.’’
Defence said in a statement: "The Chief of Navy and all members of the RAN are saddened by this loss and offer their condolences to the sailor's family."
