AKP Phnom Penh, October 5, 2011 –U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, Mr. Jeff Daigle and H.E. Khim Sarith, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts today participated in a US$52,250 grant signing ceremony to Cambodian Living Arts, the Embassy’s press release said.
According to the press release, the grant provided by U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation is to document rare forms of Cambodian music in an effort to preserve Cambodian heritage under a project called “Documentation of Three Khmer Musical Traditions”.
The Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation since 2001 has provided nearly US$2.4 million in support to both the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and organizations like Cambodian Living Arts in their quest to preserve both tangible and intangible Cambodian cultural heritage projects, it said.
These include archives preservation at the National Museum of Cambodia, preservation of the Han Chey Temple in Kampong Cham, and restoration of the Khaol Theatre.
Additionally, the U.S. Embassy has also awarded nearly US$2 million to the World Monuments Fund for the conservation of Phnom Bakheng Temple in Siem Reap. The U.S. Embassy will call for proposals for the 2012 Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation in November 2011.
