Phnom Penh Post

Situated on the western shore of the Bassac River and bound by Sihanouk Blvd to the north and Norodom Blvd to the west, the sangkat of Tonle Bassac is one of the capital’s most placid residential areas. In recent times, there has been considerable development on the banks of the river, giving rise to the Sofitel Hotel, Diamond Island, the Naga World complex and a swathe of gated communities. These include Bassac Garden City, Les Jardins Du Bassac and Borey Chamkarmorn, each offering residents a variety of property choices that are located in a secure and managed environment. The peaceful district also has the rarest of Phnom Penh offerings – small villas with gardens making the area very popular with expat families. Unfortunately the supply of these villas is not keeping up with demand and as such prices in this sector are rising.

Venerable villa

AN expansive, partially furnished villa located on a quiet leafy street in Tonle Bassac, this property has a total of six bedrooms spread out over two levels. There are living areas on both the ground and first floors. The separate kitchen is enormous, and comes furnished with an oven and refrigerator. A large terraced area is situated to the rear of the first floor, while a large balcony to the front of the house overlooks the vast courtyard. The frontal courtyard comprises a well-maintained pool and there is sufficient parking for a number of vehicles. The property is priced at US$3500 per month plus utility payments. Why not just purchase a condo, if you're paying $3500 a month for a rent?

Again, pay for this much of money in a country where people are nearly starving, just ridiculous.
