The Government will contribute US$100,000 (S$130,000) as seed money to kickstart the Singapore Red Cross appeal for donations to Thailand, Cambodia and other countries in the region affected by recent floods.
The floods have reportedly killed nearly 270 people in Thailand and more than 200 in Cambodia.
President Tony Tan Keng Yam has sent condolence letters to Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni for the loss of life and damage caused by the floods. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has also conveyed his condolences to Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.
