AKP Phnom Penh, October 5, 2011 –Foreign tourist arrivals in Cambodia in the first eight months of 2011 reached 1.8 million tourists or 15 percent increased if compared to the same period last year.
This was made known by H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism during the 3rd World Ecotourism Conference in Preah Sihanouk province on Oct. 3.
Of these tourists, more than 1.04 million visitors visited Angkor temples in Siem Reap province, an increase of 24 percent, while Phnom Penh Capital of Cambodia received some 800,000 tourists, an increase of 5 percent, according to the tourism minister.
Meanwhile, the number of tourists to coastal region increased over 8 percent, with more than 120 000 tourists, H.E. Thong Khon said, adding that more than 34,000 visitors visited the northeastern region.
Cambodia received a total of 2.5 million international tourists in 2010. The Ministry of Tourism has predicted that Cambodia would receive over 2.8 million visitors in 2011.
