Cambodia To Export 1 Million Tons of Milled Rice by 2015

AKP Phnom Penh, October 19, 2011 –Cambodia is expected to achieve its self-imposed target of one-million-ton rice export by 2015 despite the worst flood devastation, said a Cambodian senior official.

This remark was made known by H.E. Yim Chhay Ly, Deputy Prime and President of the Council for Agriculture and Rural Development on Monday at the closing ceremony of Cambodia Rice Forum 2011 attended by over 500 businessmen from local and foreign companies.

The first-ever Cambodia Rice 2011 was aimed to join with the Royal Government of Cambodia to promote the rice production and export to international market.

Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, H.E. Keat Chhon who presided over the forum said in 2010, the volume of milled rice export reached 51 thousand tons, as compared to 2009, Cambodia exported only 15 thousand tons, but by June this year the amount of milled rice export rose to 85 thousand tons.
