Military Cooperation between Cambodia and Russia Is Strengthened

AKP Phnom Penh, September 12, 2011 –The activities of the military cooperation, especially the navy, between Russian Federation and the kingdom of Cambodia was strengthened, said the head of the visiting Russian warship last Friday in Phnom Penh.

Capt. Nikolay Saprykin made the comment during his meeting with Gen. Moeung Samphan, Secretary of State of the Ministry of National Defense.

In the meeting, Capt. Nikolay Saprykin expressed his thanks to officials at the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port for creating a favorite condition for his ship to dock in.

In his reply, Gen. Moeung Samphan said the presence of the Russian warship in Cambodia is really an encouragement for the further strengthening of the military ties between the two countries. In 1980s, Cambodia’s Armed Forces received an abundant of spirit and material support from Russia, he said.

The antisubmarine ship “Admiral Panteleyev” of the Russian Navy led by Capt. Nikolay Saprykin arrived at Cambodia’s international sea port of Sihanoukville last week for a week-long visit.
