Warrior Blood implores the king to allow Cambodia to enter Miss Universe Pageant

Re: Senior Official, Cambodian King Reaffirm Bilateral Bond

Dear King Sihamoni:

The relationship with China and Cambodia continue to be strong; however Cambodia needs to be stronger at international level. I realized that this article probably no where close or related to my comment; some might says, why bother to comment about unrelated subject. However, I think it is much more relevant to Cambodia while our leaders continue to strengthen their relationships with the world's superpowers.

Cambodia needs to expose its culture to the world so that attention can be placed on this small nation which used to be the greatest empire that ruled Southeast Asia which produced many magnificent ancient temples such as Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Bayon, etc. I realized that your power as a king of Cambodia has its boundary but what I am asking you to do is not beyond your scope of power. I know for a fact from Son Soubert, you are the man who worships and preserves Cambodian culture and heritage. You love Cambodia and worship it with your life.

Miss Universe Pageant is competing this year. Where is Cambodia's involvement in this event; please don't think this is just a small event or unworthy event to show off beauty. It is a very powerful tool that Cambodia ought to put its hand on. This year, Cambodia will have a chance to catch public attention and bring Cambodia into the limelight, including its beauty, culture, politics, economic, history and traditions etc.

I am asking for your leadership to encourage PM Hun Sen to seek ways to put Cambodia on the map by getting Cambodian women to compete in Miss Universe. I know it seems a far off political agenda of PM Hun Sen; however it is much more a powerful tool then people think. Many Cambodian leaders might think it is not important or they don't want to exploit Cambodian women's beauty or expose Cambodian culture to the world etc.

The list can go on and on. Why are we poor? Why we send our children to become maids at other countries to get physically abused? Why we seek other countries' for jobs? We have to learn how to promote our country. This is the most powerful way to do it. This is a chance for the world to shine the light on Cambodia- a poor country that not many people have heard about and the country people only knows about the killing fields. What else they know about Cambodia? We have to brand our country to become the tourist destination, economic engine with many potentials. As a matter of fact, it will bring so much pride for Cambodian throughout the world to be on international stage and we can promote economic, tourism, name recognition, education, culture, Khmer beauty, etc.

The positive outcome is unlimited for Cambodia. This is like a free publicity/commerical for Cambodia at the world stage. Imagine if Cambodia won the pageant; you will bring the world's attention to Cambodia. Cambodia is always afraid of its neighboring countries to steal its land, border encroachments etc.

Well, you can use this event to capture the world's attention and the spotlight will be on Cambodia. Our neighbors such as Thailand and Vietnam have competed in the Miss Universe Pageant all the time. Why can't we find resource to do it? Who would be in the right mind to try to steal Cambodian land if Cambodia exist in the world's eyes? The world will judge theft and Cambodia will have many countries to help protect its culture, land, heritage etc. I noticed there were many comments in the past regarding this event but it was not connected to any articles, therefore the matter was left without much attention from the media or Khmerization to publish it because folks didn't know how powerful Miss Universe pageant can do for Cambodia. I am asking the king of Cambodia to assist in this matter and provide another hope for Cambodia to become well known to the world.

Warrior Blood,

You are appealing to the wrong person. The king in Cambodia is a constitutional king who reigns, but does not rule, he is powerless.

You should know very well that it was Hun Sen who threatened Ranariddh to stop the Miss Cambodia Pageant in around 1999 because he said it was a waste of money. He even warned private companies not to organize this pageant. Before then, Cambodia had a Miss Cambodia pageant every year. So, it would be good for you to appeal to your idol, Hun Sen, because he is the one who is the undisputed king in Cambodia who has all the power to do anything.

Really beautiful letter you wrote there warrior blood!!!! I'm proud that you put on such a brave face and wrote this letter to our Khmer King to allow us to have a Miss.Cambodia and its about time!!!! I loved everything in this letter. The countries who competes in ASEAN in Miss.Universe such as Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia and Philippines are all developed and have skyscrapers and Cambodia is next in terms of development and skyscrapers so Cambodia has to compete with the big boys of SEA to show that we are developing and that Cambodia wants to promote its culture, beauty and country to the world so the world can see and visit our beautiful country and Cambodia can become the next tourist hotspot worldwide!! Cambodia has to allow opportunities like this if not then the world will never know we we are. Thank you for wring this beautiful letter!!!!!!!!!

Any Khmer artist out there please start sketching national costumes for Cambodia so our king knows how much we love our Khmer culture that we want the world to see!!! Step aside Thailand its time for Cambodia to showcase our beautiful national costumes!!!!! Maybe we should send these sketches we drew to the king if possible.

It would be nice to see Cambodia finally competes in Miss.Universe. But I agree on your letter that Cambodia needs to start promoting on an international level. How would they know if Cambodia is developing or not if we aren't doing our best to promote our country and culture? I'm sure this Miss.Universe pageant will allow Cambodia to boost its tourism and see the beauty of Khmer that has been kept from the world for so long. Good job on this letter.

Warrior blood if you ever get back a reply can you post it?

Instead of wasting time and energy on a beauty contest why not bring the world attention to cambodia and its corrupt regime?

This would be good for our country and this letter was well written. I for one am sick of people stereotyping Khmer's as beggars and are poor and that all our Khmer culture is all about us being dark skinned or about the killing fields. I never once hear anyone mention anything positive about Cambodian culture such as Apsaras and etc... It's time for our country to shine in a positive light and Miss.Universe is a sign of developing. By the way does the king even read English?

With the recent news I've been hearing about Cambodia losing its identity and language I'm not surprised that Khmer culture and Khmer's are losing their identity. Maybe Miss.Universe will be that saving grace that helps preserve Khmer beauty and culture and let people know who Cambodia is. Make us feel proud of being Cambodian and not ashamed.

I was questioning myself for a whole night whether I should make this comment or not because I'm sure other readers will call me a racist, but deep down in my heart I knew I'm not.
I was concerning that while many poor pure Khmer girls working tirelessly in a muddy rice paddy field to make a living and sustaining Khmer economy,is it a good idea to have Chinese/Khmer or Vietnamese/Khmer girls to go to compete in Miss World ? Let's be honest about Khmer girl beauty. Examine a silent history first.Khmer Angkorian Viceroy at Sukhotey married a beautiful Thai refugee girl and her offspring paved the way to create Thai kingdom.
In the same manner Jaya Jetha II married Co Chin a Vietnamese princess which resulted in loosing KK. It shown that Khmer girl beauty was questionable at best.
Here I am protecting Khmer girls interest while risking saying that they are not competitive in beauty and risk myself being called a dumb ass racist.
I think before we have Khmer girls go to Miss Universe we should create Miss Rice Field contest first.

I don't know why Warrior Blood makes this Miss Universe thing a big deal while we have a lot of pressing issues facing every day life for our poor brothers and sisters. I think this is a childish idea or thing to discuss here. I think we should discuss how we can improve our economy, human right issues and improve the life of poor rural Cambodians.

I am glad to see many response which means that there are alot of interests in pursuing the same goal. In response to the first comment; PM Hun Sen shut down the beauty peagent in the past because it was not used to promote cultural heritage beauty rather it was promoting more mistress for the top officials. I know you can come back at me saying, "how about Pisith Pelika" My response, we should talk about it but she was not in the beauty contest. If you starting talking about this then PM Hun Sen will continue to declind the idea of having Miss Universe and Cambodia lost again. Sadly, everyone got punished because of individual bad behavior. I say, we forget and learned from the past, let focus on the future. There should be criterias setup for qualification not just beauty alone. In term of who should entered the contest; anybody that is qualify under the guideline setforth by the country rules and regulations. I agree with the idea of having local contest too to select good candidate and then have the Miss Cambodia contest to represent the country. However, we shouldn't look too much into people with mix races etc. It is discrimination behavior when we started to think about she is not pure Khmer etc. If she is born in Cambodia, she has Cambodian birth certificate then she is Cambodian. There are many children that are borned mixed races with white and others. You can't penalize them because of their parents background. It is hard to beleive that people still promoting racial ideology. There are black Miss Universe if it makes you feel better about black Cambodian. Don't worry about that; the judge doesn't judge you base on your blackness.

I think its really nice you wrote this letter and I'm a girl so it would make me feel beautiful and proud of being a 100% Khmer girl if I See Cambodia compete in Miss.Universe. I agree with you that Cambodia shouldn't choose a mixed Khmer girl to represent us because it makes it seem like the real full Khmer's are insecure and ugly. I would be so proud seeing Cambodia sash on the international stage. But what you said about Hun Sen not allowing the contest because it promotes mistresses that is a lame excuse because only girls age 18 to 26 I think are allowed to compete and I doubt a young girl in that age area would go for an older guy. I hope this letter works.

Yeah same here people always say Khmer culture is just about us being beggars and poor never anything positive. Look at African countries who competes in Miss.Universe it makes us seem Cambodia is the poorest and darkest skinned country of all.

I am fully agreed with 11:30 PM who are well focused on the real pressing issues. I have sympathy with 11:04 PM who felt dilemma of being called discriminatory person and weighing the real true benefit for the majority of Khmer girls. I also think that Warrior Blood is the person who cut and pasted the Miss Universe campaign adds on many subject discussions and as before he wrote many responses to fake as a multiple writers. He wrote this open letter to the King only after someone called him smart ass and asked him not to take on Cambodia because his Mom lost in Miss Universe contest! However I want to see his sisters or daughters compete in local event first and sincerely wish them good luck beside the lucks they already have as a white mixed Khmer girls.

Most of the comments above were written by Warrior Blood himself because the tone and the style are very similar. I think he wants attention and try to self-glorify himself.

Khmer girls are ugly how can they compete in Miss Universe?

Anonymous said...

Warrior Blood, that's enough for your tenacity and frivolity. Do not get into the stupidity of calling Khmer girl ugly.
They are modest and busy working for the country. If you want so badly to have your relative compete in that event, move back to Vietnam where your parents came from.
