A Communist Party of China (CPC) senior official and Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni Saturday afternoon underscored the traditional friendship between the two countries, which they said should be carried on by future generations.
Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and also secretary of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, told the king at their meeting that it is the common wish of the two peoples to further consolidate the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Cambodia as the 21st century has entered the second decade.
Deepening that relationship is also in the fundamental interests of both sides and conducive to regional peace, stability and prosperity, he said.
The profound friendship fostered by the Cambodian royal family and generations of Chinese leadership and time-tested in the changing global situation is the common treasure of the two nations and the two peoples, Zhou said. Such a traditional bond should be passed on to future generations, and it is hoped that the king could visit China from time to time, he said.
Zhou said China will, as always, back Cambodia's efforts to preserve national unity, develop its economy and improve people's well-being, and respect Cambodia's own choice for the development path that best suits its national conditions.
He noted that since Sihamoni ascended the throne in 2004, Cambodia has maintained political stability and economic growth, with improving living standards and rising international status. He said he believes that under the leadership of the king and Prime Minister Hun Sen, the Southeast Asian nation would achieve even greater progress.
For his part, Sihamoni said the Cambodian people are always grateful for China's enduring support and assistance in all aspects, and for the good treatment his parents Norodom Sihanouk and Norodom Monineath Sihanouk received in Beijing.
He said the Cambodian royal family has always been committed to promoting the bilateral friendship, while firmly adhering to the one-China policy and actively working with its close Chinese friends in a unremitting effort to consolidate the bilateral ties and inject new momentums to that relationship.
Zhou arrived here late Friday for an official goodwill visit.
Cambodia is the third leg of Zhou's five-nation Asian tour after Nepal and Laos. He is set to leave Cambodia on Sunday and continue his visit to Tajikistan and Mongolia.

The relationship with China and Cambodia continue to be stronged; however Cambodia needed to be stronger at international level. I realized that this article probably no where close or related to my comment; some might says, why bother to comment unrelated suject. However, I think it is much more related to Cambodia while our leaders continue to strengthen thier relationships with the world super power. Cambodia needed to expose its culture to the world so that attention can be placed on this small nation which used to be the great empire that ruled Southeast Asia the produce many magnificant ancient temple such as Ankor Wat, Ankor Thom, Bayan, etc. I realized that your power as a king of Cambodia has its boundary but what I am asking you to do it not beyond your scope of power. I know for a fact from Son Sobert, you are the man who worship and preserve Cambodian culture and heritage. You love Cambodia and worship it with your life. Miss Universe Peagent is competing this year. Where is Cambodia involvment in this event; please don't think this is just small event or unworthiness event to show off beauty. It is a very powerful tool that Cambodia ought to put its hand on. This year, Cambodia will have a chance to catch public attention and bring Cambodia into light including its beauty, culture, politic, economic, history and traditions etc. I am asking for your leadership to encourage PM Hun Sen to seek ways to put Cambodia on the map by getting Cambodian women compete in Miss Universe. I know it seems far off the political agenda of PM Hun Sen; however it is much more powerful tool then people think. Many Cambodian leaders might think it is not important or doen't want to exploit Cambodian women beauty to the world, expose Cambodian culture etc. The list can go on and on. Why are we poor? Why we send our children to become maid at other country to bet physical abused? Why we seek other country for job? We have to learn how to promote our country. This is the most powerful way to do it. This is a chance for the world to shine the light on Cambodia; a poor country that not many people have heard about it; the country people only knows about the killing fields. What else they know about Cambodia? We have to brand our country to become the tourist destination, economic engine with many potentials. The matter of fact, it will bring so much pride for Cambodian throughout the world to be on international stage and we can promote economic, tourism, name recognition, education, culture, khmer beauty, etc. The positive outcome is unlimited for Cambodia. This is like a free publicity/commerical for Cambodian at the world stage. Imagine if Cambodian won the peagent; you will bring the world attention to Cambodia. Cambodia alway afraid of its neighboring countries to steal its land, border incroachment etc. Well, you can use this event to capture the world attention and the spotlight will be on Cambodia. Our neighbors such as Thailand and Vietnam compete all the time. Why can't we find resource to do it?Who would be in the right mind to try to steal Cambodia land if Cambodia exist in the world eyes? The world will judge theft and Cambodia will have many countries to help protect it culture, land, heritage etc. I noticed there were many comments in the past regarding this event but it was not connected to the any article therefore the matter left without much attention from the media or Khmerization to publish it because folks didn't know how powerful Miss Universe peagent can do for Cambodia. I am asking the king of Cambodia to assist in this matter and provide another hope for Cambodian to become well known to the world.
