Prime Minister Hun Sen is expected to send an official letter today congratulating Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra (pictured) on her new post, following her endorsement by the country’s king, according to Minister of Information Khieu Kanharith.
Yingluck Shinawatra has been granted an audience with Thailand’s king at 5:30pm today at which she is expected to receive his endorsement to be the country’s next premier, the Bangkok Post reported yesterday.
The letter from Prime Minister Hun Sen congratulating her has already been drafted, Khieu Kanharith said after a briefing with about 40 reporters from Khmer-language newspapers on Saturday.
He also called on the reporters to refrain from insulting or attacking Thailand’s new premier, and urged the media and provincial authorities along the border to aspire to a spirit of cooperation with the new government in Thailand.
“Prime Minister Hun Sen suggested that we do not use the media to insult Yingluck as we had done with Abhisit, who was a thief,” Khieu Kanharith said, referring to allegations that the former Thai premier had attempted to encroach on Cambodian territory during the border conflict.
Koy Kuong, spokesman at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, could not be reached for comment on Sunday.
Yingluck was elected Thailand’s first female prime minister by the lower house on Friday, following the Pheu Thai Party’s victory in the country’s national election on July 3.
The Cambodian government has appeared to warm to the new administration, bolstering hopes a resolution an the ongoing border conflict with Thailand over the Preah Vihear temple area can be negotiated.

Hun Sen sent congratulation to the new Thai PM countless times since she was elected since July 3, 2011 by the Thais people. I don't believe that the Thai new PM ever thanks him even once time.
Thailand can handle going to war with Cambodia and competing in Miss.Universe unlike Cambodia who can't even do more than one thing at a time.
Cambodia had given respected to Thailand in the past and the present time. Did Thailand ever respect Cambodia? I understand that PM Hun Sen wanted to start fresh with the new leadership of Thailand and agree with PM Hun Sen. However, we cannot forget the human right violation of Thai's soldiers, the artifact stolen by Thai authority, and overlapse sea claimed by Thai nation. We have to find way to exist among each other as neighbor but Cambodia never once the aggressor; we were the victim for many generations. PM Yingluck has many responsibilities and she will face with many oppositions dealing with Cambodia. Cambodia cannot let our guard down because PM Hun Sen has positive relationship with former PM Thaksin. We cannot forget what happened easily and allow the enemy to walk all over us again and again just because their leader got a pretty smile. I realized the PM Hun Sen is very smart leader and will not fall for the skirt and I am confidence that he is not like other leader in the past. We should continue to be cautous with Thailand and never give them an inch.
I totally agreed with the above comment. We should be cautious and never let our guard down.
Who know? May be the new Thai PM worst than the old one...Cambodia must be well prepared at all time, don't make mistake again like the past..
