Use your rights to refuse HUN MANY´s access to US Defense Academy

NOTE: Hun Xen´s son, Hun Many, is granted scholarship by US Defense Academy. With this, I think if our people there think this is postive for our country, they just let it be, but if not so, they as taxpayers can do something by mobilizing themselves to pettition the US govt to reconsider this scholarship grant.

I am sadden to see opposition view so extreme in this article. Let me ask you this question, Do you think it is easy to reform PM Hun Sen? Do you think U.S didnt think through before it offered the scholarship to PM Hun Sen's sons? U.S is not stupid. They knew in order to help Cambodia more effectively is to reshape Cambodia's future leader. Trying to change PM Hun Sen will be enormouse tasks because he was trained by the North Vietnam and the Khmer Rouge. On top of it, Cambodia political history was no different than it is 1000 years ago. If you read the book "Cambodia curses", you will know that generation after generations, Khmer leaders never know what is "democracy", they ruled by forces. For those of you so called "American Tax Payer" wanted to mobilize and protest against the scholarship that were given to PM Hun Sen's sons; it is very hind sight to do that. I strongly urge them not to do that. Think before you acts. How many Cambodian children were given scholarship to study in America? Each year, there are more and more childrens from Cambodia were given scholarship to study in America. America has been so kind to Cambodia. Do you want to risk all of it by rocking the boat so that other kids might be jeopardize loosing theirs scholarship too? I can tell you American public cannot take this and they will protest to cut the scholarship entirely. Who really win in this battle if America cut scholarship entirely from Khmer students? Khmerization dedication to democracy is a good thing and I appreciated many articles came out again and again but I would urge Khmer to think of long term investment for Cambodia like the American did to PM Hun Sen's sons. American dont get to be the most powerful nation on earth without smart leadership long term investment in future leadership. Let the subject goes, Khmer should be proud of American long term investment strategies. Dont spoil it for other kids. Khmer can protect it soveriegnity under the protection of America. Dont be a fool just because you want to win election and willing to risk what is national interests to Cambodia. You can campaign on other issues. No one live forever that is why it is important to invest in the future.

Please don't let your hatred of one particular person or family to ruin the whole opportunity of your country youth. I agreed with every points that 12:20 AM had made above. All Khmers should contemplate on loving, caring and forgiving each other for the sake of our nation survival and existence.

Cambodia need to be free from Hun clans. They have so much blood on their hand. How many Khmer intellectuals, journalist and protesters have been killed so far? It will be a long journey for Cambodia to be come a democracy country,if you glamorise them. They are just a bunch of gangsters. Country, wealth, law and order should be transparent. We do not believe this way is a just way to save Cambodia from Hanoi mechanism. I admire Khmerization to publish this case.

If Hun Many and Hun Manet become next PM, Cambodia will become a new province of Hanoi. It will set Cambodia back 200 years to the past not to the future. It's only democracy system that will deliver a long term stability and efficiency of government and leaders for her own people.

Freedom, democracy is a human's necessity and necessity is the mother of civilization. Please do not be afraid to come to the transparent world.

It's a cynical ploy on the part of the US government to finance another one of Hun Sen's sons whilst demanding that Cambodia repay its war-time debt and as it continues to repatriate those Cambodian-Americans who hardly speak a word of the Khmer language for whatever crimes they had committed on American soil.

Cambodia has not demanded what would amount to billions of dollars in reparations from the US government for having illegally dropped thousands of tons of B52 bombs on Cambodia resulting in widespread economic and environmental damages as well as demographic upheavals throughout the country. By way of contrast a debt of around US$400m seems like pocket change. Perhaps, the US does not want to create a precedent of overwriting/waiving state debts lest other countries who still owe debts to the US request similar favours?

Regarding the US taxpayers' money being used to cover the scholarship of Hun Sen's son, morally it could be better spent in grants awarded to other Cambodian students from less well-connected backgrounds or those who lack the means to further their education abroad. After all, the Hun clans are unlikely to face financial hardship if they have to set aside anything under a few million dollars to enable their offsprings to pursue their overseas education. In fact, there is no shortage of tycoons and CPP cronies who would be more than eager to spare some change to cover the cost of the college fee, if the Huns don't want to meet it.

@ True Khmer. I know you have genuine concerns and well being for Khmer. Although Cambodia went through it ups and downs but it is more stable then ever. Investors flock into Cambodia ready to open different factories creating jobs for Cambodian. Do you know why? because the law is still relax in Cambodia so investor looking for good profit with cheap labor. This is why many companies moved out from America to many of Southeast Asian countries. American factories jobs are gone. Most of the jobs are in services area. Why do you think we have land issues now? Imagine 20 years go, who wants land? This is called gentrification in American term. Whenever you have economic boom, you see housing price goes up and land value goes up. This is why people fightings about lands etc. Cambodia doesnt have land banking system that record accurate deed and the system need to change. Back to your comment if "Hun Manet and Hun Many become next PM, Cambodia will become the province of Honoi" "Cambodia will be back 200 years to the past" How did you come up with that speculation? Your are running scare tactics which is old Cambodian politics. Cambodia needs to stop backward thinking like that. If you are economically strong and more people become educated, you will be strong. Cambodia is working into that direction whether you like it or not. I know sometime it is hard to swallow for defeat. I can't see how Sam Rainsy can win the election, most of his leaders are ready to jump ship because they get tire of the same result from its leader. PM Hun Sen supporter got money and many of his advisors are very educated. This is the fact. You dont have to agree or like my answer but it is the fact. The table has turned. Sam Rainsy used to call PM Hun Sen call short of name related to his education background. His children are educated from the most prestige school in America. Have you seen any of PM Hun Sen's children running the street? NONE. Cambodia will be fine without Sam Rainsy. Cambodia cannot live in the past.

Just curious about the person who wrote this article, are you a Cambodian-American? If so, what percentage of your tax money went to support Hun Muny & Hun Manet? I think the US is doing so to create a sense to appreciation and to educate these children about the western civilization. You know what I want to say...

I am an American tax-payer and I'm not happy that the American government is providing free scholarships to the sons of this corrupt billionaire-dictator. This amount of money could have educated 10 poor Khmer kids in an American university. Hun Sen has stolen billion of dollars from the Cambodian nation and now the American government is paying his children nearly half a million dollars to study in America. The American government should ask Hun Sen to pay back this money and use this money to provide 10 scholarships to 10 poor Cambodian children instead.
