A Cambodian commander of the 41st Brigade based at the Ta Moan temples area said yesterday that the military situation in the Ta Moan areas are calm and normal. However, he said Cambodian soldiers are ordered to be on high alert to defend Cambodian territorial integrity amid military pressures from Thailand.

Despite the calm, many Cambodian villagers continue to flee the areas in anticipation of border clashes between Cambodian and Thai troops.

Mr. Hing Hoeun, Governor of Banteay Ampil district, said villagers panicked on 28th June when they saw a large number of Thai troops being deployed in the area, but he said that up until now the situation remained calm.

In Thmor Daun village near Ta Krabey temple, there are reports that at least 55 Cambodian families have also fled their homes on 28th June after seeing a large number of Thai troops being deployed there.

Mr. Aun Ry, chief of Thmor Daun village, said 55 families had fled to take shelter at Wat Kor Pagoda, about 15km from Thmor Daun.

50,000 rounds that didn't do a thing. Only wounded a few villagers.

These villagers know best. They understand the situation. One second may be normal but the next seconds might not. They have a reason to flee that could make them more secure. The best armor is to stay away from the front line.
