French PM arrives in Cambodia for official visit

Mr. Francois Fillon meeting Prime Minister Hun Sen.

PHNOM PENH, July 2, 2011 (Xinhua) -- French Prime Minister Francois Fillon arrived in Cambodia on Saturday at noon for a two-day official visit, marking the first visit by a French leader to this country in nearly two decades.

Francois Fillon is accompanied by Frederic Mitterrand, French Minister of Culture, Valerie Pecresse, Minister for Higher Education and Research, Pierre Lellouche, Secretary of State for Ministry of Foreign Trade, and Thierry Mariana, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Transports.

At the Phnom Penh International Airport, Francois Fillon was welcomed by Cambodian Minister of Tourism Thong Khon and the Ambassador of France to Cambodia Christian Connan.

During the visit in Cambodia, Francois Fillon will hold a bilateral talk with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, and he would also be received in royal audience by King Norodom Sihamoni and King Father Norodom Sihanouk.

Francois Fillon and King Norodom Sihamoni will attend the closing ceremony on the completed restoration of Baphuon Temple, one of Angkor's oldest ruins, and visit Angkor Temple in Siem Reap province on July 3.

The last French leader to visit to Cambodia was President Francois Mitterrand in 1993.
