Thai-Cambodian troops stand ground despite no tensions

SURIN, 30 May 2011 -Surin Governor Mr. Serm Chainarong said soldiers from both Thai and Cambodian sides were still standing their grounds even though tensions had subsided.

According to the Governor, the livelihood of residents living near the Thai-Cambodian border has been affected. Children are not getting education and border trades are not as busy as before when the gun battle erupted in April. Household incomes have also been declined.

No troops from both sides of the border have been withdrawn so far. Residents fear bombs and bullets fired from Cambodia could be left undestroyed. Villagers are urged to contact local authority immediately if these explosives are found.
