If war broke out with Thailand, Gen. Tea Banh's hometown is a concern

Anonymous said...

The great concern of Cambodia in the event of war with Thailand it not in Preah Vihear temple area, but in Koh Kong area, the hometown of Defence Minister Tea Banh, where a lot of people may not be familiar with.

Koh Kong province have the border with Trat province of Thailand, with land and sea , it's critical if the Thais are able to bomb the bridge (consist of 2Km long) which is connected to the border and it will cut Cambodia's transport and supplies have to go by boat. Geography of Koh Kong itself puts Cambodia in both sides of the advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, it is the Thai side only which have one road to the border along the steep hillside and Thailand is on the lower side and the road is quite narrow, on the other hand Cambodia have a small island in the estuary of the Dong Tong river and it has been the strategic point of Cambodia since the era of the French colonialism. This little island consists of steep hill top and the French have built concrete bunker installations with big cannons and able to defend Koh Kong from the invasion by land and sea.

During Lon Nol era, the Khmer Rouge failed to capture this a little island after the several attempts until the day of the collapse of the Lon Nol regime.

At the time Vietnam occupied Cambodia in 1979, this island played an important role of protecting Cambodia's army (regiment1) from the Vietnamese army (division4) along the border, with it unobstructed view and rise high above the sea and the artillery on the island can hit any ship that come close to Cambodia shore and hit any Thai targets along the border.

From the Cambodia intelligence reported on the Feb 4th, 2011 the Thais plan to bomb the bridge the the event of war.

Cambodia should has a long range missile to hit Bangkok City and Thai Govts building...

Long-range missiles are good, but not good enough. We must buy a lot of fighter jets to bomb all Thai cities to the stone ages.

The bridge is the life line of people who make a living along the border.

The main comment is really silly: "if war broken out with Thailand, Gen. Tea Banh's hometown is a concern"...
This person don't know anything about Koh Kong. Even in the government levels, no one dare to talk about Koh Kong. It is controlled by a main superpower.
