A Voice of Reasons

If Cambodian people truly had a choice of who they can chose to be their real leader, it would be someone who understand Cambodia and knows people's lives and their difficulties. That leader should be the most qualified. Cambodia have such leader, however; he's the greatest threat to Hun Sen and the Hanoi government. What is holding Cambodian people from choosing that real leader is fear of retribution. Hun Sen and the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) goons know who voted for whom. The two forces of the CPP and the Hanoi government have been wrecking havoc in Cambodia's political arena for much longer than Cambodian people care to know. These two forces have used fears, intimidation, and violence to suppress the opposition party, mainly the Sam Rainsy Party (SRP). The Hanoi government was the hidden high octane fuel behind the 1997 grenade attack. The Hanoi government is the invisible force standing behind to instruct Hun Sen what to do that would necessarily to end Sam Rainsy's career and his political party. Apparently, Hun Sen and the Hanoi government have successfully accomplished that mission. This is the result of one politician representing his voters who was and is trying to make a difference for his people's lives.

Self-criticism and evaluation are necessary to correct oneself. Apparently, Cambodian are very good at hurting each other. When it comes to Thailand or Vietnam, they are very easy to back down. The Hanoi government had been so cruel toward Cambodia and her people, yet the Cambodian leaders just simply play dumb and stupid. People don't elect leader to play dumb and stupid for them. Do parents enjoy seeing their children being mistreated by their neighbors?

Cambodia has a long way to go in standing up together as one unifying force to stop anything that might harm her nation. Cambodia's weakest link is unity. Cambodia enemies exploited this very well and had gained much from this weakness. I hope Cambodian people are beginning to see what is really holding them back. Hun Sen and the Hanoi governments can only go so far as to control the Cambodian people, but, ultimately it's the multiple voices of one that is the strength to counterstrike any adversaries.

Did you mean Mr. Sam can be a real leader for Khmer? In Lon Nol's time, Khmer soldiers cut off Vietnamese heads, cut out their guts, destroyed their houses...etc. What was the result of that? Lon Nol's regime vanished like salt in water. Later, Pol Pot's government launched attack on Vietnam. Again, this regime came to an end. Thus, we don't see any useful point to repeat that history. We should build peace amongst our neighbours.

11:37 AM, you are believing Viet propaganda. The Khmer Rouge regime was very weak, poor and small. Do you think a small and weak person will go and attack bigger and stronger person? At that time Vietnam encroached on Cambodian territory the same as Thailand encroached on Cambodian territory now. The Khmer Rouge were trying to protect Khmer territory by trying to stop the Viet encroachments. It was the Viet who attacked the Khmer Rouge first because of border dispute. Don't believe Viet propaganda that the KR attacked Vietnam first in order to retake Kampuchea Krom. This is a Viet propaganda only. The KR regime was so weak, no weapons, less troops and so poor so how can it dare to attack the bigger, richer, more powerful Vietnam and try to retake Kampuchea Krom? Only idiots will believe this.

Well, if Khmer Rouge had been very weak, how could it have gained victory from US based Lon Nol's regime? Anyway, i didn't get that fact from Vietnam. I got the video documents by American from Youtube. You can try watching them to see if they are Vietnam-oriented.

6:55 PM, here is another misunderstanding from you. The KR did not defeat the Lon Nol regime on its own. Without the Vietcong, who had bases everywhere since 1967 in northern Cambodia like Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri, the KR was nothing. The Vietcong (Viet communist)which is the present ruler of Vietnam was the one who created the KR. Tou Samouth, the Secretary General of the Cambodian Communist Party which was the KR party, joined the Indochinese Communist Party created by Ho Chi Minh before he broke away and created the Cambodian communist Party. Pol Pot also joined the Indochinese Communist Party (ICP) before he killed Tou Samouth and took over as secretary general of the Cambodian Communist Party(CCP)in around 1963 and then became prime minister of Cambodia when the KR took over in April 1975.

If you read the KR history you will know that the KR (Cambodian Communist Party) was created by Ho Chi Minh, it was an offshoot of the ICP. From 1967 to 1975, all major battles against the American troops and the Lon Nol troops inside Cambodia were fought by the Vietcong troops, not the KR troops. Without the VC troops, and to a certain extent Sihanouk, the KR was nothing. The Vietcong (present Vietnamese government) helped Pol Pot and his KR killed nearly 2 million Cambodians. Vietnam only became the KR enemy in 1977 when the KR objected to Vietnam encroachments of Cambodian territory and small skirmishes, small battles were fought along the border until Vietnamese troops invaded Cambodian on 25th December 1978 and took over Phnom Penh on 7th January 1979.

The KR did not attack Vietnam to recover Kampuchea Krom as propagandized by Hun Sen and his CPP cronies, but only tried to stop Vietnam'e encroachments like Hun sen is trying to stop Thai encroachments in Preah Vihear at the moment. Hun Sen knew very well that the KR did not attack Vietnam first because he was one of the KR commanders who fought against Vietnam before he defected to Vietnam in 1977 because Pol Pot wanted to kill him for treason. Hope you are clear now.

Initially, the Khmer Rouge was very strong before April 17, 1975. They were trained by the Viet Cong. Prior to this, former King Norodom Sihanouk had made secret agreement with Ho Chi Minh to use Cambodia/Vietnam/Laos to build Ho Chi Minh trails to bring weapons and supplies for the Viet Cong to fight south Vietnam. In return, Ho Chi Minh agreed to give Kampuchea Krom(south Vietnam) to Cambodia when the war is over and if communist Vietnam defeated south Vietnam. Former King Norodom Sihanouk encourage and instructed his people to joined the KR. During that time, the KR appeared very innocent and patriotic. Sihanouk thought by supporting the KR, his power would be restored after defeating Lon Nol. He didn't know about Angka Leur(Hanoi?China?) who had their own dark aganda. He didn't realized that KR was made up of 2 entities(pro-Hanoi[Soviet] and pro-China). When the Soviet(Hanoi)and China began to distrust each other, so does the 2 entities within the KR regime. The KR began killing off each other, Khmer killed Khmer. This was what weaken the regime, which of course open up a perfect opportunity for Hanoi to move in. Ho Chi Minh was being very clever son-of-a bitch all along, used Khmer to kill Khmer to reduce their strength, then finish off what is left.

Yes, prior to Hanoi invasion of Cambodia in 1979, the Khmer Rouge regime had reduced themselves to almost bare hands as far as their military defense. They had very little defense against Hanoi's army who had well rested since capturing Saigon. When they invaded Cambodia, it was a walk through the park for Hanoi's troops.
