BANGKOK: Thai and Cambodian troops exchanged heavy weapons fire on their disputed border again early Saturday, a day after a bloody clash left six soldiers dead, officials on both sides said.
"Fresh fighting started at around 6 am (2300 GMT Friday) with rifles and mortar shelling at the same flash point," said a Thai army spokesman in the border region, Colonel Prawit Hookaew.
"We are negotiating to stop the fighting," he said.
Cambodia confirmed the latest outbreak of hostilities, which occurred near a group of disputed temples.
"The fighting started at 6:15 am (2315 GMT Friday). It involves artillery shelling," said defence ministry spokesman Chhum Socheat in Phnom Penh.
Ties between the neighbours have been strained since Preah Vihear -- the most celebrated example of ancient Khmer architecture outside of Cambodia's Angkor Wat -- was granted UN World Heritage status in July 2008.
The World Court ruled in 1962 that the temple belonged to Cambodia, but both countries claim ownership of a 4.6 square kilometre (1.8 square mile) adjacent area.
Observers say the temple dispute has been used as a rallying point to stir nationalist sentiment in Thailand and Cambodia.

is the man spreading false propaganda.
The guy is a viet extremist pretending to khmer.
He can also write read, write and speak Khmer, in English term it's called the hidden mole. Usually you don't see it, and it can be hard to detect by the common people. It's like a gem. He uses Khmer language as a tool to destroy Khmer people with lots pretending to be one.
Without the proper help from real powerful international organization, the Khmer Thai conflict will drag on indefinitely.Khmer countrymen want to see their kingdom have military strength so it neighboring state like Thailand will not continue to invade their country again. But SRP is against military spending.Last time the kingdom bought tanks, SRP criticized the government. "SRP's MPs wanted more money to spend on HIV/AID patients who are going to die pretty soon anyway" commented one Khmer soldier. SRP distanced the country away from China,N Korea and perhaps from Russia too, so if Khmers need weapon where would they turn to ?
SRP relationship with USA is not good either. Most of SRP's MPs have background from elite Khmer families so they opted to befriended with US republican party instead of staying neutral. Even Israel or Thai they worked with both US major parties: Republican and Democratic.
Sam Rainsy has neither flexibily to work with other major political party in the kingdom nor does he wants to engage with CPP to contribute his talent to serve the country but wants only to be prime minister first. As an elitist Sam Rainsy can not see himself as a subordinate of Hun Sen who was used to be a pagoda boy.
One Khmer student said "I give my salutes to all other Khmer intellectuals who, from abroad, hold Ph.D, Master degrees etc...who come to Cambodia to contribute their talents, souls and efforts to serve our country first without setting the preliminary condition. They cared for Khmer people first, they ignored politic and to them CPP or Hun Sen are irrelevant."

Don't blame the war on Sam Rainsy, he is the opposition and never had any power in Cambodia. All he can is criticize and nothing else. He is chased outside Cambodia for many years and did not have any decision making process in his country.
I saw many bodies of fucking Siam soldier on the fighting site and more still not yet taken away. Yes you don't lost bec you're thief and your dead soldier is the fight dog only. You have more soldiers but your have tried to fight for overtaking Cambodia site almost 3 years, and always lost shamefully. CAM doesn't want to fight with your baby soldiers but if you need and force it, it welcomes!
Thai has more solders but it has tried to fight for robbing Cam sites for 3 year ago, it always lost shamefully. More bodies of fucking Thai soldier are not yet taken away from the fight site. CAM doesn't want to fight with Siam's baby soldiers, but if Thai needs and forces, CAM welcomes in self defence.
