Ras Al Khaimah ruler receives Cambodian Tourism Minister


H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, holding talks with H.E. Dr. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism of the Kingdom of Cambodia, at the Al Dhait Palace in Ras Al Khaimah on Tuesday.

The meeting included discussions of enhancing bilateral relations in trade, economy, commerce and tourism between UAE and Cambodia and steps to activate investment partnerships between business communities in the two countries.

H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, received H.E. Dr. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism of the Kingdom of Cambodia, who called on him at the Al Dhait Palace here in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah.

Sheikh Saud gave the Minister an overview of the development policy pursued by Ras Al Khaimah in its endeavour to become a leading destination for tourism, industries and services in the region. "We really appreciate the visit by Minister Dr. Thong Khon and the accompanying delegation to Ras Al Khaimah and hope that the visit would result in productive steps for enhanced relations and higher levels of collaboration across various sectors," he added.

Sheikh Saud said that UAE and Ras Al Khaimah can provide an ideal gateway to Cambodian companies looking to expand their operations to serve the Middle East markets.

Dr. Thong Khon lauded the remarkable progress and economic development taking place in UAE and affirmed his country's desire to boost trade and economic cooperation with the UAE "Cambodia is actively pursuing development of its natural assets and has also taken up infrastructure development including airports and ports as a key element of its development strategy. The tourism sector of Cambodia has seen rapid development and we are expecting international tourist arrivals to increase from the current annual figure of 2.5 million to reach eight million visitors by 2020," he said and noted that the developments would create further opportunities for joint cooperation between the two countries.

He added that Cambodia was looking forward to the commencement of direct flights to UAE soon which would give a boost to people- to- people contacts.

Kamal J Agostine, Official Representative Officer of the Cambodian Ministry of Tourism in the Middle East and GCC, Fawaz Abdullah Al Tunaiji, Special Secretary to H.H. the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, and a number of officials were present at the meeting.
