The Cambodian parliament has expelled opposition leader Sam Rainsy (pictured) from the parliament on 15th March after he had exhausted all avenues to have his conviction quashed after being convicted of document forgery and destruction of public property for uprooting six border stakes on 25th October 2009.
One day after, 16th March, the Secretary General of the National Election Committee, Mr. Tep Nytha, said Mr. Sam Rainsy has lost all parliamentary rights and been banned from standing in future elections, partcvularly the 2013 election.
Many people are disappointed with Mr. Sam Rainsy's expulsion from the parliament, saying his conviction and expulsion are politically motivated.
Mr. Dorn Rithy, a famrer from Prey Veng, said he wanted Mr. Sam Rainsy to be given equal opportunity to participate the in 2012 commune election and 2013 national election as his counterparts from the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP). He said Cambodia follows a democratic system and therefore cannot create an event to bar the leader of the opposition party from particpating in the elections.
Mr. Keo Thai, a teacher from Boribo Hun Sen Junior Hingh School in Kampong Chhnang province, said the expulsion of Mr. Rainsy from the parliament and the barring of his participation in the election process did not happen by chance, but was a premeditated and politically motivated strategy of the ruling CPP.
Another voter from Kampong Thom, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Mr. Sam Rainsy is still very popular with voters and his popularity concerns the ruling CPP that it has to get rid of him and barred him from participating in the election process.
Mr. Rong Chhun, president of the Cambodian Independent Teachers Assocition, said he is disappointed about Mr. Rainsy's expulsion from the parliament and the ban of his participation in future elections. He said the non-participation of the leader of the opposition party in the election will make the election process lacks transparency, not free and fair.
Dr. Hang Puthea, president of the election monitoring group called NECFEC, said Mr. Sam Rainsy can be compared to a human cell of his party. When the body loses a cell, the body will become weak. This is the same with the Sam Rainsy Party. He said the absence of Mr. Rainsy in future elections is not important as long as the opposition parties are allowed to participate in those elections.
Mr. Ou Virak, president of the Cambodian Centre for Human Rights, said the expulsion of Mr. Rainsy from parliament and the barring of his participation is in contravention to the will of the people who elected Mr. Rainsy to the parliament in the first place.
Mr. Phay Siphan, spokesman for the Council of Ministers, said the government did not bar Mr. Sam Rainsy from returning to Cambodia from his exile. On the contrary, he has outstanding issues with the court stemming from his action in uprooting border stakes in 2009.

Now, it's time to get out from your home demonstrate your right to change Communist Cambodia to a real democracy country. If you don't do it now, March 18, your children will drown in this type of regime from generation to generation. Come out people from all walk of life including the monks to joint hands and hands together now and kick Hun Sen, the Youn puppet, from out country to liberate our land.
