Hun Sen seeks ceasefire [but Thailand rejected the proposal]

Phnom Penh Post

Prime Minister Hun Sen (pictured) said today that Cambodia would call on Thailand to sign a permanent ceasefire under the auspices of ASEAN when the bloc’s foreign ministers gather in Jakarta for a meeting next week.

Speaking at a rare press conference at the Peace Palace, the premier said Cambodia would make four requests at the meeting, including an additional demand that ASEAN observers be deployed to monitor the ceasefire.

“These are the points that Cambodia [will] propose, and [we are] drafting this proposal before sending it to the chairman of ASEAN,” Hun Sen said.

“This time, it will clearly show who dares to sign and who dares not to sign.”

The meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, follows skirmishes between Cambodia and Thailand in areas close to Preah Vihear temple, which left at least 10 dead and dozens injured on both sides.

Phnom Penh and Bangkok have accused each other of triggering the clashes, just the latest in a sporadic series of fire fights that have occurred on the border since July 2008, when UNESCO inscribed Preah Vihear temple as a World Heritage site.

Hun Sen said the Jakarta meeting would show whether Thailand, which steadfastly opposes multilateral talks to resolve the issue, was truly willing to bring an end to the simmering
border dispute.

“I predict in advance that Thai party will not accept the fourth point,” he said, referring to the proposal for the deployment of ASEAN observers in the disputed area.

“However, I would like to say in advance that if Thailand disagrees to have observers at the site, then Cambodia will welcome forces from ASEAN into Cambodian territory to monitor the Cambodian forces.”

He said the country would welcome military, police or civilian authorities from any of ASEAN’s member states.

On Monday, the United Nations Security Council called on the two sides to “display maximum restraint” and avoid any action that may aggravate the situation, urging them to pursue a resolution at the bilateral or regional level.

The council rejected a Cambodian request for UN peacekeepers to be sent to monitor the ceasefire.

Hun Sen said today that Cambodia was also preparing to write to the International Court of Justice at The Hague, requesting that it explain a 1962 verdict that handed Preah Vihear temple to Cambodia.

Still in custody

The prime minister also dismissed suggestions that two jailed Yellow Shirt activists from Thailand – including high-profile nationalist figure Veera Somkwamkid – might be eligible for royal pardons.

The pair were part of a group of seven Thais arrested in Banteay Meanchey province in December after venturing into a border area to “investigate” the demarcation process.

Though the other five were released on suspended sentences, the case stoked nationalist sentiment in Thailand ahead of this month’s clashes.

The Bangkok Post reported today that the Thailand Patriots Network, an offshoot of the nationalist Yellow Shirt movement, was lobbying the government to request a pardon from King Norodom Sihamoni.

Hun Sen said Veera, who has been handed an eight-year jail term on February 1, cannot be forgiven and must serve his full sentence at Prey Sar prison.

His secretary has also been sentenced to six years prison.

“Don’t come to persuade me to ask for a royal pardon, I will not do that and [the case] will be enforced under the law this time,” Hun Sen said.

People listen UN is know everything but UN as well as American and the world of modern democracy hate Hun Sen regime so much. American, UN use thai to eliminate Hun Sen regime out of the world only, that's why American, UN act like that. Please look at recently regime of Tuniasi and Egypt behind the scence is American and UN. Trust me, I am old enough and have heap of experinced in UN.

The idea is to wipe out all Hun Sen regime from the world and China can't help Hun Sen either because China know that China won't win the war with US. The military technology of China today are copy from US since 1945. US military system are a head China over 60 years.

Cambodian people should also wipe out Hun Sen regime as well as his 400 relative out of the world because they are the source to make cambodian people suffer until today.

Why do Kos Trol, sea and lands proximately over 10 000 km2 have been lost to Vietnam by who treaty? Why don't Cambodia goverment transparency explain to cambodia army at front line and the whole nation about this? Why don't they include this into education system? Why?

Cambodian army are fighting at front line for 4.6 km2 and what's about over 10 000km2 of cambodia to Vietnam. Nobody dare to talk about it! Why? Cambodian army you are decide the fade of your nation, Cambodian army as well as cambodian people must rethink about this again and again. Is it fair?

Kos Trol, Sea and lands over 10 000km2 have been lost to Vietnam by who treaty at 1979 to 1985 treaty! treaty! Cambodian army at front line as well as all cambodian people must rethink again about these issues. Are cambodian army fighting to protect the Cambodia Nation or protect a very small group that own big lands, big properties or only protecting a small group rather in the real name of protecting khmer nation?

Cambodian army at front line suffer under rain, wind, bullets, bombs, lack of foods, lack of nutrition, their families have no health care help, no securities after they die but a very small group eat well, sleep well, sleep in first class hotel with air conditioning with young girls message, have super health care from oversea medical treatment, they are billionairs, millionairs who sell out the country to be rich and make cambodian people suffer everyday as cambodian people know already.

Who signed the treaty 1979-1985 that result lost over 10 000 km2 of Cambodia??? Why don't they transparency inform all Cambodian and cambodian army at front line about these issues? Why don't include Kos Trol ( Kos Trol size is bigger than the whole Phom Phen with planty of natural resources ) in education

Quote, "Stop this nonsense, if the UN does not want to provide observers as requested by the thais, Khmers must provide the truths by simply installing video cameras along the border problems areas providing live feeds to the UN and the news organizations around world to show who are the thais perpetrators; to solve this problem that is created by the thais", unquote.

I am Khmer and Khmer first and foremost. And thus I want to elaborate a bit on the lacking of hun sen and his regime.

hun sen, u and ur regime cannot solve any international issues with fairness and justice for Khmer people, because you are not a just and fair person because of you are an ignorant person who have used thugs, force and murders to solve internal issues and thought the same could be used to resolve external issues; apparently not because the thai has bigger thugs. This is why you and ur regime must step aside in order to allow truly wise Khmer leaders to truly serve Khmer people in a two terms limit and territories fairly and justly.

hun senseless and ur regime said to Khmer people that if you want to inspect the border demarcation between the viet, they must bring coffins along. When SR Party representatives and the Khmer people at the border whos lands have been taken away by the viets, to go to inspect the border demarcations, you asked your thugs to beat them down, which amused the viets standing around and laugh. When you went to hanoi, the viet ordered you to give in on the viet border demarcations and to give up the islands that have been part of Khmer people for centuries, and you agreed and carried out the viet orders. If the Khmer king Sihamoni did not sign it, you would have used your thugs to beat down and murders and change the regime to the viets liking, as you did in 1997 coup as was ordered by the viets after your visited with them, after you and your thugs lost in the 1993 democratic election. The facts were cleared no matter what the viets told you and ur regime to say afterward.

hun senseless, you and ur regime think you r a stongman with the viet backing among the weak in cambodia, but you and your thugs r a tiny frog in the whole scheme of things as evident by your lack of UN backing resolution to a minor issue with the thai eventhough they know thai is 100% wrong in this case.

I read a book about you awhile back, you were saying that king Sihanouk said during the negotiation before the 1993 election that you a good Khmer and that cambodia would be better with more people like you serving. If this was true, ask Sihanouk again if this is still true? If it was true Sihanouk was uncharacteristically fooled or you have changed to a viet serving hanoi after you and your regime lost in the 1993 election.

Also in the book you boasted that you and ur regime had embedded ur thugs in very corner of cambodia and on ever levels of goverment, and that why when you give order to commit murders and attrocities on the political opponents and even on the good Khmer people they will not hesitate to carry out to keep you and ur regime in power in cambodia to continue to serve the viets. Sooner or later that will break down as you and ur regime saw in iraq where the dictator saddam hussein (sounds familiar?) who ruled for thirty years was betrayed by his close relatives, captured, trialed and hung like a dog without tags. From hanoi to you and ur regime, the good people's judgment day will come sooner rather than later if you and ur regime do not start to change now.

By the way, you promoted your son to a two-star general after he just finished school, send him to the border as a test to see if he can resolve this minor border issue with the thai, that is fair and just for Khmer people?

hun senseless you told the UN to take a hike when it was not convenience for you to meet with them when their delegation came to discuss human right in cambodia. You thuggery attitude came back to bite you when the UN rejected your request to send observers to the border problems areas. This should be a lesson to you and your
regime.

hun senseless, you and ur regime should read up on Khmer history to have some clues on how Khmer Angkor Empire that included today's thai, laos, cambodia and south viet was built and reigned for centuries instead of continue to allow the viets to control over you and ur regime. Such as allowing viets to walk into cambodia without visa nor passports, to live, fish, shit, rob, shoot and do what ever they please where ever they want inside cambodia when Khmer people are restricted. And now commemorating the viets invasion date 1979. You and ur regime know well that if the viets had good hearts and purely wanted to liberate Khmer people from Khmer Rouge they would had done so in 1977 when they invaded and pulled back, remember you didn't like that because they didn't give you sanctuary to live after you fled to viet.

Why don't you and ur regime open your eyes to the recent history of Kampuchea Krom,...it disappeared from the map into viets hands. You know the viets started with sending their people to settle in Kampuchea Krom, then with the first opportunity took over. Well the viets are doing same thing in today cambodia. Awaken before you and ur children will have no place to call home like Khmer Krom. If you and ur regime r fine with that then step aside because Khmer people in cambodia and around the world will 'never' let that succeed.

These issues may be just the tip of the icebergs, but it's never too late to turn around and do the right thing now.

Let God be witnessed to you and ur regime actions of the pass, present and future, and let him makes final judgment on your spirits and souls. With the time you and ur regime have left on this earth you and your regime can learn and change your thuggery ways from commiting murders and beating down Khmer people to empower them to do great things again; from serving the viets to truly serving Khmer people; from loosing Khmer territories to maintain and regain Khmer territories; from ignorant and corruption (as you and ur regime well know that was in part an ignition of the khmer rouge revolution that ended up murdering millions of its own Khmer people, but when the viets invaded, the KR radio addressed for starving Khmer people to fight the viets with bare hands...) to fairness and just for all Khmer people under fair and just laws; from contruction you and ur thugs mansions and vacation homes to build cambodia infrastructures, schools, libraries, universities, housing and so on for Khmer people; from enriching by continuously stealing and robbing from cambodia and Khmer people to give back and invest in the Khmer people health and education; from prit pro quo to applying the laws fairly and justly and no one is above the laws including youself; from eviction Khmer people from their lands and properties to reinstating them or provide fair and just market values to them; from treating Khmer people like dogs without tags to treating them like you and your family would like to be treated; from manipulating the true Khmer people votes to champion their wills; from a dictator (enough of you, ur face, ur voice, your regime already) to a two terms limit prime minister allowing new shoots to grow and better ideas to govern and move Khmer nation forward; et cetera. Take this opportunity to do good now. New and truly wise Khmer leaders who will truly serve and lead Khmer nation to a new dawn of fairness, justice under fair and just laws of the land, and prosperity for all in the next coming years such as in tunisia and egypt.

Remember that knowledge is power and no one can steal it from you. 'Chongus mouy bach kach min bak'. No one can look down on you without your permission. And you and your regime and thuggery behaviors still have an oppotunity to change to leave behind an overall good legacy that will last many genereations in some fashions a bit like the Khmer Kings who served benevolently upon Khmer people during the Angkor zenith centuries. Khmer people 'samaky' in a fair and just land as one is strongest!
