Cambodia, Thailand pledge to boost trade amid border conflict

PHNOM PENH, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia and Thailand pledge to boost trade amid military confrontation at the border disputed areas near the temple of Preah Vihear, a World Heritage site.

In a meeting with Thai Deputy Prime Minister Trairong Suwankiri on Thursday (pictured), Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said that Cambodia' s policy is to narrow dispute and expand resolution with Thailand.

"We have to control the dispute along the border, not to spread further and expand cooperation on other sectors such as economy, trade, investment, tourism, culture, among others," he said.

Trairong Suwankiri said that his one-day visit to Cambodia is to open the annual Thailand Trade Fair 2011 in Phnom Penh from Feb. 17-20.

"Thailand thanks Cambodia for supporting the Thai Trade Fair in Phnom Penh from Feb. 17-20," the Prime Minister's spokesman Eang Sophalleth quoted Trairong Suwankiri as saying.

Bilateral trade between Cambodia and Thailand amounted to 2.54 billion U.S. dollars in 2010, up 54 percent from 1.65 billion U.S. dollars a year earlier, according to the statistics from the Thai embassy in Phnom Penh.

Of the sum, Cambodia exported to Thailand goods worth only 214. 7 million U.S. dollars and Thailand exported to Cambodia worth up to 2.34 billion U.S. dollars last year.

Cambodia and Thailand have had border conflict just a week after Cambodia's Preah Vihear temple was enlisted as the World Heritage Site on July 7, 2008.

The conflict is due to Thai claim of the ownership of 1.8 square miles (4.6 sq km) of scrub next to the temple, triggering a military build-up along the border, and periodic clashes between Cambodian and Thai soldiers have resulted in the deaths of troops on both sides.

The latest clashes on Feb. 4-7, with a barrage of artillery shells unleashed on both sides of the border, had claimed the lives of soldiers and civilians on both sides and also caused tens of thousands of the two countries' villagers near the disputed areas fleeing for safe shelters.

People listen UN is know everything but UN as well as American and the world of modern democracy hate Hun Sen regime so much. American, UN use thai to eliminate Hun Sen regime out of the world only, that's why American, UN act like that. Please look at recently regime of Tuniasi and Egypt behind the scence is American and UN. Trust me, I am old enough and have heap of experinced in UN.

The idea is to wipe out all Hun Sen regime from the world and China can't help Hun Sen either because China know that China won't win the war with US. The military technology of China today are copy from US since 1945. US military system are a head China over 60 years.

Cambodian people should also wipe out Hun Sen regime as well as his 400 relative out of the world because they are the source to make cambodian people suffer until today.

Why do Kos Trol, sea and lands proximately over 10 000 km2 have been lost to Vietnam by who treaty? Why don't Cambodia goverment transparency explain to cambodia army at front line and the whole nation about this? Why don't they include this into education system? Why?

Cambodian army are fighting at front line for 4.6 km2 and what's about over 10 000km2 of cambodia to Vietnam. Nobody dare to talk about it! Why? Cambodian army you are decide the fade of your nation, Cambodian army as well as cambodian people must rethink about this again and again. Is it fair?

Kos Trol, Sea and lands over 10 000km2 have been lost to Vietnam by who treaty at 1979 to 1985 treaty! treaty! Cambodian army at front line as well as all cambodian people must rethink again about these issues. Are cambodian army fighting to protect the Cambodia Nation or protect a very small group that own big lands, big properties or only protecting a small group rather in the real name of protecting khmer nation?

Cambodian army at front line suffer under rain, wind, bullets, bombs, lack of foods, lack of nutrition, their families have no health care help, no securities after they die but a very small group eat well, sleep well, sleep in first class hotel with air conditioning with young girls message, have super health care from oversea medical treatment, they are billionairs, millionairs who sell out the country to be rich and make cambodian people suffer everyday as cambodian people know already.

Who signed the treaty 1979-1985 that result lost over 10 000 km2 of Cambodia??? Why don't they transparency inform all Cambodian and cambodian army at front line about these issues? Why don't include Kos Trol ( Kos Trol size is bigger than the whole Phom Phen with planty of natural resources ) in education

For now, please leave the issue of Koh Trol aside. I know it's a prize piece of Cambodia's territory, but it's another issue that will come up in the future. As long as Ah Hun Sen is in power, any Cambodia's territory taken by Youn or given to Youn is not worth mentioning because Ah Hun Sen allowed Youn to take what it please and say nothing. At this moment, Cambodia need to focus on issue of Preah Vihear between Khmer and Siem. Cambodia need to deal with one enemy at a time. Kampuchea Krom, Koh Trol, or any other territorial issues involving Youn, Cambodia will always remember. In order for Cambodia to argue about
any territorial dispute, Cambodia must be strong
economically, politically, and militarily. When Cambodia
arms with these weapons, Cambodia can be more
convincing to others in the region. This is why Thailand
has the upper hand over Cambodia, even if it has broken many international rules. Cambodia must understand that she cannot rely on the mercy of UN and ASEAN to defend herself from bullying neighbors to the east or west.
