France offers maps to resolve Thai-Cambodia spat
AFP – The Preah Vhear temple in Preah Vihear province. France has offered to help resolve a festering border …
PARIS (AFP) – France on Wednesdat offered to help resolve a festering border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia by providing maps it made at the start of the last century when it ruled Indo-China.
French officials made the maps in preparation for the Franco-Siamese Treaty of 1907, which delimited the area over which the two countries are squabbling.
Foreign ministry spokesman Bernard Valero told reporters that Paris was happy to provide the documents “ to any country that asks us to consult them or to make a copy of these documents.”
At least eight people have been killed in four days of cross-border violence between Thailand and Cambodia around the ancient temple of Preah Vihear, which forced thousands of families to flee on both sides of the frontier.

I applaud France(one of the 5 permanent members of UN Security Councils), for taking the intiative to resolve this border issue, while ASEAN is turning its back on Cambodia by encouraging bilateral talks which had proven over and over to be ineffecive. The agreement between Franco-Siemese treaty of 1907 clearly stated where the borderline of Cambodia and Thailand. This map is originally authentic. I urge Cambodian government to take advantage of this through exposing the legitimacy of this border agreement. This is what Thailand fears most. Let the truth be told to the world. This is why Thailand staunchly denied international involvement. To have UN or ASEAN participate in resolving with this issue, Thailand would be shooting itself in the foot. Thailand is fully aware of breaking the international law. Cambodia must not beat around the bushes with Thailand's bilateral talks. Multilateral talk is a necesssary must, if there is any border issue to be resolved. Do not buy into Thailand claimed of dispute land, because there is not such thing as "dispute land" according to Franco-Siemese Treaty in 1907. If Siem(Thailand)signed it, Thailand must honor.

France should present these maps to the UN Security Council and distributed them widely. Cambodia must distribute these maps to all UN members to show that Thailand is the aggressor and invader.
