PHNOM PENH, Cambodia -- Bad blood between Cambodians and Thais that has led to several deadly skirmishes over disputed territory has spread to their canine compatriots, with a dog fight sparking a brief border clash.
Local Cambodian Governor Hem Sophal says soldiers from the two countries were separately patrolling the border on Saturday when dogs accompanying them began fighting. He says that led the soldiers to briefly exchange fire, though no one was hurt.
Hem Sophal expressed regret at the incident Monday, saying Cambodian soldiers normally have good relations with their Thai counterparts.
Thai Army Spokesman Col. Sansern Kaewkamnerd denied any renewed border fighting.
At least eight people were killed earlier this month in clashes at another point along the border.
