Cambodia not ready to build chemical or nuclear weapons

People's Daily Online
February 25, 2011

Cambodian government reaffirmed Friday that it has banned all kinds of production of chemical and nuclear weapons which is contradictory to international treaty.

In a press statement released after a weekly cabinet meeting, it said a sub-decree with four articles was approved Friday during the meeting at which it is designed to examine the chemical substance which is potential for the production of chemical and nuclear weapons.

The sub-decree regulates the control, management and collection of data on the need of any use of chemical substance which is required by the international convention.

The sub-decree was approved as correlation to the country's constitution.

Cambodia's Constitution, article 54, says that "The manufacturing, use, storage of nuclear, chemical or biological weapons shall be absolutely prohibited."

Cambodia is a signatory and a party to many international conventions and treaties, including the Ottawa Treaty which deals with landmines.

12:03 PM, at this age you can do whatever you want if you have the money. Many Russian nuclear scientists are out of work, if Cambodia will pay them very good salary, they will come to work for Cambodia. It is not hard to build nuclear weapons in Cambodia. If Cambodia has the money, expertise can come from China, Russia, North Korea, Pakistan and many more countries. Burma is suspecting of trying to build a nuclear factory to produce nuclear bombs. You think Burma is capable of doing this by themselves without the assistance from other countries?

Also, Battambang University has developed a nuclear course at one of its faculties with the assistance from S. Korea. In a few years time, Cambodia will have some Cambodians who have knowledge in nuclear science and with the help from foreign experts like Pakistanis, N. Koreans, Russians and Chinese, Cambodia is on the way to producing its own nuclear weapons if no one (America etc.) try to stop it.

Be aware of Thai has secret plan to build nuclear weapon but all materials have been recalled by the US last year.

It's dangerous if southeast nations try to race nuclear weapons. They will become puppet of super power nations such as China, Russia, and the US.

What southeast nations should do is to build peace and to strengthen economic growth in the region. Thia may go to far to make such aggression against Cambodia that looks like her brother and sister.

Hey.. people, let not try to see what is not there. Don't jump to conclusion and assumed too much. This does not mean Cambodia is secretly interest in creating WMD(Weapon of Mass Destruction) such as chemical and nuclear weapons or agree to weaponize chemical or nuclear components for any other nation. This is just a reminder to the world that Cambodia has no place for such interest.

12:03PM, stop your ignorant on Cambodia. You need to stop seeing Cambodia as 10, 20, or 30 years ago. Cambodia now is very capable of becoming a strong an powerful nation. Cambodia is interest in having nuclear power plant as a source of energy to power her factories, building, and homes. Not as weapon to blow up her enemies. Only a dumbass like to see it that way. Even if that was the case of Cambodia acquiring a nuclear weapon, the world can't afford to have another nuclear power nation anyway, especially in Asia, especially for Cambodia. This would rattle every living soul in southeast Asia.

Coal power is too pollute and destructive to environment, so either hydroelectric power or nuclear power. This is what it means, Cambodia is showing an interest in nuclear power but not in nuclear weapon. There is a big diffence. Many nation in the world have nuclear power sprang up like wheat in the garden, but they have peaceful purposes. It's not very expensive to build. With the assistance of France, China, South Korea, or nations that have much experience in nuclear energy can assist Cambodia in the construction of a nuclear power plant. Vietnam already has a nucler power plant in Dalat to supply electricity demanded by factories. Cambodia is going through similar economic growth like Vietnam and this is why there is a need to have more electricity and nuclear power is the choice for Cambodia.
