The Cambodian military has erected a memorial plague on a big rock near Wat Keo Sekha Kirisvarak pagoda in the vicinity of Preah Vihear temple, the spot where about 450-700 Thai soldiers had occupied on 15th July 2008, as a testimony to Thai aggression and to remember the Thai invasion of the area.
Ten Thai troops were stationed on the big rock near the pagoda for 2 and a half years when they were withdrawn on 1st December 2010 from the pagoda compound to the temple vicinity, but still inside Cambodian territory.
The plague was unveiled by Defence Minister Tea Banh on 8th January and was attended by military officers, including Mr. Sor Thary, governor of Preah Vihear province.
The plague was erected on a big rock where the 10 Thais had erected their outpost during their occupation of the area. The plague was inscribed with the words "This spot was where the Thais invaded".
The plague, 1.8 metres by 0.90 metre, was constructed from marble with letters written in gold colour and faced east toward the 5th Gopura.
