A Hollywood film company, Indochina Productions, has received permission from the Cambodian government to film the third series of 'The Transformers' science-fiction movie at Angkor Wat in Siem Reap province and Bokor in Kampot province.

Minister of Information Khieu Kanharith had announced his permission to Indochina Productions in his Facebook. "I have given the greenlight for them to film the movie in Siem reap and in Bokor in accordance with the request from the production company", he wrote in his Facebook account.

Mr. Nicholas Simon, producer of Indochina Productions, said the third series of the science-fiction “Transformers 3 – Dark Side of the Moon” will be shot in Cambodia in February 2011 at the Angkor Temple Complex and Bokor Hill Station.

“Transformers 3” is the third part of the well-known science-fiction movie about TRANFORMER robots defending the earth.

“We want to shoot in Cambodia as it is one of the most beautiful countries around. With both Angkor Wat and Cambodia’s natural wonders, we will be able to maintain the large production scale of TRANFORMERS while giving the impression that the story is traveling all around the planet earth,” said Mr. Nicholas Simon in his letter addressed to Cambodian Minister of Information H.E. Khieu Kanharith.

This production will highlight the beauty the Angkor Temple Complex to a worldwide audience, he said, adding that it is estimated that over 500 million people have seen the previous two Transformers and with TRANFORMERS 3, millions more will discover the beautiful landscapes and cultural heritage of Cambodia.

Mr. Simon also recalled his good experiences in film production working in Cambodia on projects such as ORACLE, Matt Dillon’s CITY OF GHOSTS and Legendary Pictures’ I AM THAT MAN.

That's strange, I thought Transformers 3, The Dark Side of The Moon, is coming out sometime this spring or summmer. Anyhow, Hollywood will also be shooting another movie in Cambodia. This one is all about the Khmer Empire and Jayavarman 7. It's prabably coming out in a few years. I'm glad Cambodia is getting some spot light from Hollywood.

It also means a great deal for Cambodian tourism industry. This is a free tourism ad for Cambodia and millions of people around the world will know about Cambodia and its tourist spots like Angkor Wat and Bokor.

For once, I wish white hollywood would stop exploiting a sacred monument, such as our beloved Angkor Wat, in their endeavor to produce a multi-million dollar movie. Who really benefits from all of this? The Cambodian government, yes. The people, not really. And hollywood, yes. I wish we would put more money in restoring the temple. Why can't that be part of the filming contract? If production companies want to film there, I think a percentage, a good percentage, of their earnings should go towards restoring the temple as well as creating more long term employment for our people. Yes,I have issues with this.
