The mixed Vietnam-Cambodia Border Committee has chosen five companies to draw and produce new maps for the land boundary between the two countries.

The five companies are: BLOM Geomatic ASrbs of Denmark and Norway, IGN-Fi of France, Kokusai Kogyo Corporration Ltd of Japan, Pasco-FINNMA of Japan and Finland and Samboo Engineering Co Ltd of South Korea.

A press release on 1st December stated that the bidding was done under the chairmanship of Cambodian Border Commission chairman Var Kimhong (pictured) and Vietnam's Deputy Border Committee Chairman Nguyen Hong Thao.

The new maps, which will take two years to complete, will be drawn along the 1270 kilometres borders between the two countries.

Mr. Rong Chhun, chairman of the Cambodian Watchdog Council, said the two countries has rushed to draw the maps too soon, before the demarcations have even been completed, saying that there are irregularities in the drawing of such maps.
