Closing Workshop on Election and Democratic Space
Since October, the Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR) has organized four public forums on Election and Democratic space (FOREDS) in four different provinces; Battambang, Ratanakiri, Takeo and Phnom Penh. The forums were organized to assist in understanding and identifying issues of concern in the areas of elections and democratic governance, and to provide a neutral space for people to get engage in these issues with their representatives.
On the 8 December 2010, CCHR will be hosting a closing workshop on “Election and Democratic Space” in Phnom Penh. Participants from the government, including representatives of the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Women’s Affairs, representatives from the political parties, the NEC, the National Assembly and the Senate, and representatives from civil society organizations will be invited.
At the Closing Workshop, CCHR will present the FOREDS activities and our findings and recommendations. A panel of key stakeholders including decision makers, Ministries and civil society representatives will speak on some of the key issues identified by the CCHR and discuss the recommendations with the aim of generating a discussion with the participants on the issues that have been identified and how we can move forward in order to institute a real change in Cambodia.
The Public Forum will take place on 8 December, 2010, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. at La Parranda hotel, No. 207, Mao Tse Toung St, Sangkat Toul Svay Prey II, Khan Chamkarmorn, Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
