Mr. Rong Chhun, chairman of Cambodian Watchdog Council, plans to lead a delegation to inspect border post No. 109 in Da commune, Memot district of Kampong Cham province and another border post in Kampong Trach district of Kampot province at the end of this month.
He said his decision to lead a delegation to inspect border posts in these areas came after he received information from local villagers that Vietnam had moved the posts deeper inside Cambodian territories.
Mr. Var Kimhong, chairman of Cambodia's Border Commission, had forbidden Mr. Rong Chhun and his delegation from going to inspect those border posts, saying that he and his group had no expertise in border affairs. He added that border posts were planted correctly in accordance with the laws and agreements between the two countries. If Mr. Chhun and his delegation go to the areas, they might disturb the works of border demarcations in the areas.
Mr. Rong Chhun's previous attempts to inspect border posts in other areas had been stifled by police blockades, intimidation and disturbances from vigilantes hired by the government.
Vietnam and Cambodia plan to finalise all border demarcations by 2012.
