Opposition activist in hiding for fear of arrest

A Sam Rainsy Party political activist from Prey Veng province has gone into hiding and said that he fears arrest after he failed to appear before the court last week on charges of defamation and spreading disinformation.

Mr. Oun Sam Oeun said on Wednesday that he was accused of defaming Mr. Hem Hun, chief of Pdao Korng commune, after he gave an interview to a local newspaper in relation to his opposition and protest against a construction of a road in Pdao Korng commune of Ba Phnom district in 2009 which has affected 10 families.

Mr. Chea Poch (pictured), the Sam Rainsy Party MP for Prey Veng, said the court must conduct thorough investigation first before summoning anyone to appear before the court.
