The UN Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki-Moon (pictured) will lead a UN delegation to Cambodia for a 3-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Hun Sen, starting from 26-28 October.

According to a press release by the Cambodian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday 13th October, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon and his delegation will have an audience with King Sihamoni and he will also meet with Prime Minister Hun Sen. The UN chief will also pay a visit to the ECCC (Khmer Rouge Tribunal) and the Cambodia-Soviet Friendship Hospital (Russian Hospital) in Phnom Penh.

Mr. Ban Ki-Moon will also visit Thailand. The visit of the UN chief to both countries came after Cambodia filed a letter of complaint to the UN against Thailand's threat of the use of force against Cambodian troops. The UN chief said he is willing to mediate the border dispute if requested by both countries.

It is not clear what topics will be the agenda of the discussion between the UN chief and Prime Minister Hun Sen, but the Cambodian prime minister has said in the past that he will formally ask the UN chief to mediate the dispute. However, after he met with the Thai PM in New York ion 24th September and in Brussels on 4th October, Mr. Hun Sen seem to soften his attitude by reverting to bilateral negotiations, instead of the multilateral involvements he has vocally called for earlier.
