A San Bernardino man has pleaded guilty to killing his wife in November 2006 during a Cambodian good luck ceremony in the couple's home.

Barnum Anthony Hornbeak, 63, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder as part of a plea bargain reached during proceedings Friday in San Bernardino Superior Court, according to court records.

Hornbeak is scheduled to return to court Oct. 22 for sentencing. The defendant's expected sentence was not immediately available.

Family members had gathered Nov. 11, 2006 at the couple's home in the 2600 block of San Carlo Avenue for the religious ceremony, according to San Bernardino police. Hornbeak tried asking his wife, 52-year-old Tha Vann, some questions, but she ignored him.

That's when, authorities said, they believe Hornbeak walked out to his van, returned with a revolver, and calmly shot his wife in the head. There was no argument nor confrontation, detectives said.

Hornbeak called 9-1-1 at 7:54 p.m. to report that he had shot his wife.
