Cambodia has demanded that Thailand correct the newly-drawn maps (pictured) which put both Ta Moan Toch and Ta Moan Thom temples in Thailand's Surin province. The temples are situated under Cambodian sovereignty in maps drawn by the Franco-Siamese Commission in 1908.

These Thai maps were spotted by visiting Cambodian journalists who were invited to Surin province in a luxury hotel in Surin called Thong Tarin on 20th October. The map were written in Thai and English. Under the English writing, Cambodia was written as "Democracy of Cambodia", but in Thai it was written as "Democratic Kampuchea". Both Ta Moan Toch and Ta Moan Thom temples were put on the Thai side of the border.

The Cambodia journalists immediately contacted the Thai Foreign Ministry and pointed out that the map was incorrect. Mrs. Thanthida, Director of Information at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said she will ask the ministry to change the name of the country in the map by replacing "Democratic Kampuchea" with "Kingdom of Cambodia". However, regarding the deleting of Ta Moan Toch and Ta Moan Thom temples from the map, it might not be possible.

Mr. Atikun, a staff at Thong Tarin Hotel, said these maps were made by Thailand's Ministry of Tourism and they have been distributed to hotels and tourist resorts throughout the country.

Ta Moan Toch and Ta Moan Thom temples are situated under the sovereignty of Cambodia under the Franco-Siamese maps drawn in 1908. However, in 1998, when the Khmer Rouge movement which manned the temples, disintetgrated, Thai authority and soldiers came to guard the temples and began doing renovation works. In 2008, when dispute over Preah Vihear temple erupted, Thailand had declared ownership of the temple against Cambodia's will.
