Ven. Yoeung Sin, the abbot of Samakki Raingsey Pagoda in Phnom Penh and the outspoken critic of Vietnam, has died on Tuesday 28th September from an asthma attack at age 78 years old.

Mr. Thack Sang, president of Khmer Krom Friendship Association, said the abbot passed away at 12:05 pm. on the afternoon of Tuesday at Visal Sok Private Hospital in Phnom Penh from a chronic asthma.

A source said that on the same afternoon, a committee of clergy from Phnom Penh went to examine the abbot's body at Samakki Raingsey Pagoda, but it seems that they have not had a good co-operation with the police or local authority.

Ven. Yoeung Sin is an outspoken critic of Vietnam's treatments of Khmer Krom people and he has led many protests against persecutions of Khmer Krom living both in Cambodia and Vietnam.
