Chinese ambassador to the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), Madame Tong Xiao Ling, had called on Foreign Minister Hor Namhong at the Cambodian Foreign Ministry where they had discussed about the strategic interests in the South China Sea and a varieties of other issues.

According to Koh Santepheap, FM Hor Namhong said that because there is a joint (statement) communique regarding the co-operations in the South China Sea, it is important that all parties apply all aspects of that agreement that can lead to the development and the maintaining stability in the region.

The two sides had also discussed about the possibilities of the creation of the East Asian Community, but they had stressed that it must not affect the East Asian Summit. On the subject of political developments in Burma, both sides agreed that the Burmese junta regime had implemented the 7-point reforms, including a general election in November 2010 which both Cambodia and China hope it will be a free and fair election.

The East Asian Community comprised the 10 Asean countries plus 3, ie China, Japan and South Korea. Later, the East Asian Summit expanded to include Australia, India and New Zealand. At present, it has expanded to include the United States and Russia which makes the bloc to comprise the 10 Asean countries plus 8.
