Cambodian tourism officials said on Tuesday that they plan to invite Hollywood stars to help promote and attract tourists to Cambodia as Cambodia prepare to host a major Asean Tourism conference in January 2011.
Mr. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, said his ministry will invite many famous Hollywood stars, especially Jackie Chan, to star in TV commercials in an attempt to help kick start the Cambodian tourism industry. "We will invite Jackie Chan who was known in Cambodia as Chan Long and other Hollywood stars to come to Cambodia during the Asean Toursim conference", he said.
Mr. Thong Khon, speaking during the launch of the Ministry of Tourism's website, said the invitation of Hollywood stars to Cambodia is aimed at attracting tourists from Asean countries, as well as tourists from the Asean partners like India, Australia and Russia.
Cambodia has made available 1,300 hotel rooms for tourists during the conference which Cambodia has hosted once before in 2003.
It is not sure if mega-star Jackie Chan will accept the invitation, but during his latest visit to Cambodia in 2009, Jackie has expressed his keenness to help promote Cambodia to the world by promising to return to make movies in Cambodia.
