Cambodian government spokesman said Cambodia will not discuss Khmer Krom issue with the visiting Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet who will be arriving for a three-day official from 26-28 August, reports Radio Free Asia.

Mr. Khieu Kanharith (pictured), Minister of Information and government spokesman, said the visit of the Vietnamese president was at the invitation of King Sihamoni that aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties between the two nations, but said any issues relating to the Khmer Krom people living in Vietnam will not be discussed. "What will we talk about? They have their own Buddhist pagodas, they have their own Khmer Krom associations, they have their own villages, so what can we talk about?", he said.

Two days before the arrival of the Vietnamese president, Khmer Krom Community in Cambodia has sent a letter to King Sihamoni asking him to raise a number of Khmer Krom issues with the visiting Vietnamese president.

Mr. Thack Setha, president of Khmer Krom Community in Cambodia, said many Khmer Krom people have been arrested and jailed for demanding for their freedom as the citizens of Kampuchea Krom which was annexed by Vietnam. He said the Vietnamese authority banned them from forming any associations, restrict their freedom of religious and cultural practices. "Because [the situation] we've seen nowadays is very serious. And we've also seen that the Vietnamese [authority] is using [imposing] their influences on the Khmer Krom people. In [Kampuchea] Krom, they don't allow us to form any associations and the Vietnamese leadership can come to Cambodia any time they wanted to conduct meetings in the pagodas and go around threatening all associations not to conduct their activities and so on. This is absurd", he said.

Last month, a senior Vietnamese police official had requested Cambodian authority to clamp down on any Khmer Krom associations that conducted anti-Vietnamese activities in Cambodia.

We know that, CPP is a Hanoi mechanism. It's like a slave to raise an issue with his boss Hanoi to have
more freedom.
Free yourself from Hanoi master. You are Khmer, you came from a great race. Human on this planet should be free from persecution of liberty; freedom or believe.

Khmer Krom are prisoners in her own country?. What are you living for?

It's almost useless to help free Khmer from Youn at this me because Hun Sen will not allow that. Hanoi is telling Hun Sen to tell Khmer to not dare do anything for the interest of Khmer. Khmer can only free ourselves when the ruler of Cambodia distance himself from Hanoi. We can bet that the next ruler of Cambodia will kiss up to Hanoi to be in power and to stay in power. Just like a drug addict, he/she cannot easily walk away from this addiction that is brought forth by Hanoi. If Cambodia want to truly be free, Cambodia must be strong as a nation. When Cambodia becomes economically, politically, and militarily.

Kanharith's words are useless. It shows that the Cambodian government just doesn't care about Khmer Krom or it is scared of Vietnam. Khmer Krom ask the king and government to help free Ven. Thach Sophoan who was defrocked and jailed for criticising Vietnam. Help in reclaiming back their land- rice fields confiscated by Vietnam, help to ask Vietnamese president to let them form associations and open schools to teach Khmer Krom kids how to read and write Khmer language. So, why Kanharith said there is nothing to talk about? Irresponsible!
