Mu Sochua has touched down at Phnom Penh Airport on Monday 5th July and repeated her earlier stance that she'd rather go to jail than pay the $4,000 fine to an unjust court, reports Cambodian Express News.
On 17th June, the court issued an ultimatum to Mu Sochua to pay fine in 15 days or face jail term for defaming Prime Minister Hun Sen. The ultimatum expired on Saturday 3rd July, two days before she arrived back in Cambodia.
Speaking to reporters at the airport, Mu Sochua said she will only agree to pay the fine whenever the courts have become fully independent, neutral, non-corrupt and no longer used as political tools by any political parties. She said the court's decisions and conducts at the present time are too unjust and therefore are unacceptable.
She added that she is ready to go to jail and said the police or court can arrest her any time, even on the spot where she is speaking right now, she said.
Mu Sochua was ordered to pay about $2000 fine to the court and $2000 compensation to Mr. Hun Sen. Court officials said if she refused to pay the fine before the ultimatum, which expired on 3rd July, she could be jailed. And if she refused to pay compensation to Prime Minister Hun Sen, her assets and houses will be confiscated and auctioned off.
