The Finance and Camcontrol police have on Friday morning raided a noodle factory (pictured) in Phnom Penh's Chamkar Morn district after receiving a tip off that it had used Borax, the chemical compound which contained the poisonous mercury, to process noodle, reports DAP News.
According to the report, police found 570 kilograms of Borax at the factory and tests conducted during the raid found that the noodle processed in the factory contained high level of the poisonous mercury.
Borax is a poisonous chemical which is dangerous to people's health and can cause many symptoms such as vomitting, headaches, skin diseases, stomachache, inflammation to the bowel and gallbladder.
Mr. Im Kea Lim, owner of the noodle shop, admitted to have used the chemical in his noodle processing because he said he received large quantity of orders from customers so he needs to use Borax to keep his noodle fresh for a long period of time.
