The Ministry of Information has ordered the shutdown of a radio broadcast of the Alliance for Democracy Party of Mr. Khem Veasna (pictured), citing a violation of the Ministry's directive, reports Radio France Internationale.
Mr. Khem Veasna, a former MP from the opposition Sam Rainsy Party, said that the shutdown of his party's radio broadcast was an act of suppressing the freedom of speech and a political discrimination.
However, Mr. Khieu Kanharith, Minister of Information, charged that DTO (Development and Training Organisation), which received permit to broadcast the programs on behalf of the Alliance for Democracy Party on FM90MHz Radio, has violated the Ministry's directive issued in October 2009 which required all broadcast materials to be submitted for checking and inspection before going air.
Mr. Khem Veasna claiming political discrimination saying that radio broadcasts of other political parties, such the Sam Rainsy Party and Human Rights Party, have not been shut down.
