About 500-600 Thai ultra-nationalists have travelled to the border area today (1st May) in an attempt to uproot border post number 23 near Ta Moan Toch temple, but they were prevented from reaching the border post by Thai border guards, reports Deum Ampil.
Gen. Chea Dara (pictured), top Cambodian commander of the Khmer-Thai border area, told Deum Ampil by telephone at about 3pm Cambodian time that the Thai protesters dispersed after they were prevented from reaching the border post by Thai border guards personally commanded by commander of Thai Military Region Two, Gen. Wiwalit Chornsamrit.
He said the Thai side took a no-compromise stance against the Thai protesters and only allowed them to protest about 300 metres from the border post after he and a number of Cambodian commanders made it clear that Cambodian troops have been ordered to shoot if the protesters crossed into Cambodian territory and uprooted the border posts.
