Deputy Prime Minister Sok An (pictured) said the government needs more time to respond to the opposition questions regarding allegations of bribery in awarding mineral and oil exploration concessions to foreign companies, reports Cambodian Express News.

Earlier this week Mr. Son Chhay, an MP from the opposition Sam Rainsy Party (SRP), has written to Deputy Prime Minister Sok An asking the government to answer his 7 questions in relation to the matter.

In late April, Australian media widely reported that Australian largest steel company, BHP Billiton, was under investigation by the U.S Securities and Exchange Commission for paying $2.5 million in "tea Money", a euphemism for bribery, to the Cambodian government to secure a contract to explore bauxite in northwest Cambodia. The allegationn was strenuously denied by Prime Minister Hun Sen as he said other companies bidding for concessions had also paid the money, including a French company Total whyc paid $28 million.

Mr. Tith Sothea, spokesman for the government's Press and Quick Reaction Unit, said onn 6th may that Deputy Prime Minister Sokk An has not received Mr. Son Chhay's letter, which was sent through the President of the Parliament Mr. Heng Samrin, yet.

On 5th May, Mr. Sok An wrote a letter to Deputy Prime Minister Sok An asking him to answer seven questions, including asking him to clarify about the nature of the BHP Billtion payments and the $28 million paid by Total, in exchange for exploration concessions in the Gulf of Sihanoukville.

Mr. Tith Sothea said Mr. Sok An needs more time to prepare the answers, but also added that there is no question to answer as Prime Minister Hun Sen has explained the matter very clearly already.

The sooner, the better. Dr. Sok An.
All of us do hope that we don't have to wait for another 15 long years to get an answer from you.

Sok An doesn't want to answer those questions because he and Hun Sen pocket the money themselves. All concession 'tea money' go to Hun Sen's and Sok An's pockets.

When the U.S Securities and Exchange Commission prompted an investigation on a suspicion of wrong doing, it must be obvious that the suspicious matter turn into a guilty matter. I will make a presumption of guilt to alleged matter. I am a Cambodian, it is very perplexed to me that to this date, these officials gov't continue to sabotage our country [to me when you never get tire of and continued to steal from your own people time after time, you are sabotaging your own country and people that you are governing], As a human being, sometime your consciousness should kick in, and sporadically should look at the mirror and say to yourself, I must do the right thing for the sake of my country and my people.
