Cambodian film director selected to lead World Cinema Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival

Internationally acclaimed Cambodian-born film director, Rithy Panh, has been selected to lead the World Cinema Pavilion (Pavillon les Cinémas du Monde) at the Cannes International Film Festival in France and another Cambodian film director, Guillaume Suon, has also been selected as a member of the delegation of Pavillon les Cinémas du Monde, reports Radio France Internationale.

Pavillon les Cinémas du Monde was founded in 2009 to help promote films from developing countries so they can participate in the Cannes International Film Festivals.

Rithy Panh was selected as the "godfather" of 12 young film directors from 12 developing countries. With the famous French actress Sandrine Bonnaire, Rithy Panh is responsible for providing guidance and advice to the 12 young directors on the promotion of films from developing countries.

The inauguration of the Pavillon les Cinémas du Monde were attended by Secretary of the French Foreign Ministry in charge of the Francophone (French-speaking) countries, Governor of Cannes City, Director of RFI-France24-TV5 Monde radio and television network as well as dignitaries from a number of African countries.

Cambodian-born Guillaume Suon is a director of a documentary film titled "About My Father" which seeks to find out how his father was killed during the Khmer Rouge regime which will be screened in cinemas across France on 20th May. During the speech, the Secretary of the French Foreign Ministry promised that France will help struggling film-makers from the Francophone countries of which Cambodia is a member.

Radio France Internationale is an importance partner of Pavillon les Cinémas du Monde since its inception in 2009.
