A defence lawyer for the two Svay Rieng farmers jailed for uprooting border posts in Chantrea district has urged the court to speed up the appeal hearing of his clients, saying they have been incarcerated for nearly one year already, reports Cambodian Express News.
Prom Chea and Meas Srey have been convicted and sentenced to one year jail term on 27th January 2010 for uprooting border posts with Mr. Sam Rainsy on 25th October 2009. Mr. Sam Rainsy was sentenced in absentia to 2 years jail.
Mr. Sam Sok Kong, lawyer for the two jailed farmers, wrote a letter to the Appeal Court stating that his clients had been in jail for nearly one year and that they should be released as soon as can be done because both had done nothing wrong.
Mr. Sam Sok Kong is hopeful that the Appeal Court will provide justice to his clients and ordered them released from prison in the not too distant future.
Mrs. Choeung Sarin, wife of Mr. Prom Chea, said both inmates' health are o.k, but said her husband had stomarch illness and a numb on the leg, while Meas Srey had a heart problem. She is appealing to Prime Minister Hun Sen to intervene to help release her husband from prison.
