MUSIC lovers can enjoy the rich and varied sounds of traditional Khmer music from the Cambodian Royal Band each Sunday night at Canley Heights RSL from 7pm.

The Cabramatta group, comprising of four permanent members and an additional four vocalists on the night, performs a mix of Cambodian folk and pop music, as well as music from Thailand, China, Laos, Vietnam and western countries.

Band spokesman Richard Kong said each member was musically skilled in their performance of popular and danceable Khmer folk songs such as Rorm Vong and Saravan.

“The leader of the band, Sam Kheuv, graduated from a Russian-Vietnamese music school back home, so he is a composer, too,” Kong said.

The group has also performed at Cambodian community events, including at the Khmer Buddhist Temple in Bonnyrigg.

Details: Sundays from 7pm to 11pm at Canley Heights RSL, and each Monday night at Cabra-Vale Diggers in the Ambrose Lounge.
